The aim of this work is to discuss today?s approach to sociology. Recently, there has been an emphasis on a relativist view, which criticizes the notion of objectivity and truth, bringing to light the scientific view of sociology as a utopia. This work aims to analyze these views based on Karl Popper?s ideas. Sociologists are now facing arduous discussions involving dichotomies such as agency or structure, holism or individualism, long-range theories and middle-range theories, as well as the question of the rationality of actions. Our objective is to show how Popper?s texts, which deal with social sciences, are positioned within this debate and we will discuss the coherency and consistency of his views. We intend to demonstrate how some schools of thought within sociology may be seen as a realization of Popper?s point of view |
