Descripción The soybean rust, in recent years has represented one of the most serious threats to the culture of this oleaginous, for its explosive nature and in function of the inexistence of varieties with acceptable resistance. In addition to the negative consequences of the occurrence the rust in the areas of commercial production of grains, sanitary analyses of soybean samples in the Seeds Pathology Laboratory of the Department of Plant Pathology of the Universidade Federal de Lavras – MG, disclosed the occurrence of Phakopsora pachyrhizi associated to the seeds of some samples destined to the exportation, what it makes impracticable the approval these lots for the international trade. The present work had as objective to verify the occurrence of P. pachyrhizi in soybean seeds, to evaluate the viability and longevity from related pathogen throughout the period of storage, as well as, to analyze the transmissibility of the agent the rust from soybean seeds. The samples was evaluated to detection of the fungus by means of the method of examination of suspension of wash with posterior counting of urediniospores in microscope slide resulting in occurrence rate that varied of 83 to 1056 urediniospores/100 seeds. For the viability and germinability evaluation soybean seeds was artificially inoculated, packed in multileaf paper bags conditioned in environment with temperature and relative moisture monitored for term-hygrograph. The samples was evaluated to each 30 days using itself tetrazolium test in agar-water. In all evaluations were not observed any manifestation of germination of the urediniósporos however the enzymatic activity in small percentage of spores throughout the considered period was evidenced indicating viability of this inoculum. Regarding to transmissibility assays seeds with natural contamination and reinforcement inoculation, using inoculum of P. pachyrhizi had been sown in five liter pots and these kept separately in boxes constructed with protection sporeproof of P. pachyrhizi for period of 80 days. In the same conditions of inoculum, sand test was conducted in 15 and 20ºC chambers with high content of moisture for period of 20 days. To the end of the period the collected plants had been evaluated in stereoscopic microscope. No signal or symptom of the presence of the pathogen was detected in any resultant plant of the two experiments.
