Estrategias Lectoras para la Comprensión de la Prensa Escrita

In the context of a language learning, the integration of reading into the language programme is essential, obviously interrelated with the other skills of listening, speaking and writing. But it is often difficult to convince students of English as a foreign language that texts in English can be understood even though there are vocabulary items and structures they have never seen before. So it is useful to provide our students with different types of texts that require different styles of reading in order to become effective readers. On the other hand, projects are multiskill aaivities that provide students with the oportunities to recycle known language and skills in a relatively natural context. Through the project "Newspapers in the classroom", we try to make students aware of the possibility of being able to understand and produce newspaper articles through a great variety of activities based on stimulating authentic reading material related to various sections and aspects of national and intemational news, finance and science and technology.
