Descripción This work aimed to search, in the school quotidian of children in the first grades of elementary school, in a private school, the relation between child plays and the gender identity construction. This study, by qualitative features, has its theoretical bases in writers whose productions bring constructions about child plays: Bettelheim (1988), Moyles (2002; 2006), Winnicott (1971; 1965), Huzinga (1980) e Kishimoto (2002; 2005), gender identity: Beauvoir (1980), Badinter (1993), Mead (1971) e Saffioti (1987) and learning theories Vygotsky (1998). In the methodological point of view, it favoured the in loco observation, with photographic record, interviews with the teachers of the selected groups to the serch and the analyses of the Political Pedagogic Project of the school, for analysing how this relations set up in the processof meaning construction, in proportion to new meanings are set by the plays. It?s outstanding in this study the relation between the play act and the gender identity construction, showing conceptual reflections that focus the plays regarded unsuitable to girls or boys. The study offers the comprehension of the ludic universe of the children, as well as make possible the reflection, to the teachers, about their pedagogic pratices either in the class or in the break time. The analyses of the search results made possible the identification of the ways in wich the plays reinforcestereotypes about masculinity and femininity, empowering too the reflection about until where is advisable to discriminate plays by the gender, considering how this practice can influence the gender identity formation.
