This present work aims to analyse the conception of women with Down syndrome concerning women identity and sexuality, sexual education, as well as to verify if subordination stigma, inferiority and dependence, socially built and associate to the feminine identity, reenforce ideas of incapacity and immaturity attributed to women with mental deficiency.The methodological approach prioritized to make visible the feminine voices, having gender as category of analyse and being a qualitativeresearch based on a socio-historical approach. To make that possible four workshops with three women with Down syndrome aged 15, 19 and 22, respectively, were realized. The participants of this present work used to go to Sociedade Pestalozzi in Camaçari, Bahia, where the researcher worked as an educational psychologist. Besides the discussions of the mentionated themes, draws and day-byday objects were applied with the aim of contemplating aspects resulting from nonverbal expression, having in mind that the participants presented different levels of compromised verbal language skills. Collected data analyse showed the presence of a remarkable repressive sexual education for these women, even though their ageand biological constitution stated them a woman condition, they were victims of a childish posture, resulting in an attitude of great dependence of the maternal figure. It was also evident the disinformation and distorted concepts about body and sexuality from part of these women and sexual role differentiation. In this way, it was possible to conclude that cognitive limitations, when slight or moderate, did not unsuit the effectiveness of sexual educational programmes, conversely they mark their priority, understanding that sexual dimension is present during all phases of human development, independent of the cognitive condition. It was noticed that values and attitudes related to sexuality can be passed and assimilated by individuals with Down syndrome, in order to favor the learning of shared and socially accepted behaviors in the context they belong to. It was pointed out the importance of introducing dicussions that take into account the gender as a factor which permeates affectionate relationships and organizes, hierarchically the social roles, as well as the scholar inclusion that favors more appropriateness to behaviors related to sexuality in individuals with mental deficiency, since learning is done through exchange among individuals and environment should be stimulating for human development. The sexuality in a person with mental deficiency, as it has been thought and treated by society constitutes an impeding factor of an effective social inclusion as far as it favors the stigmas perpetuation. |
