| Descripción |
The present thesis takes as its point of departure the concept of a mundialized yoruba identity, referred to as Yorubanidade. This concept was defined as the spirit of ethnic, ideological, political, symbolic, cultural and religious belonging to the so-called Yoruba Atlantic Complex, a world in which predominates the world-view as well as the philosophy of live of the Yorubas, a people of African descent who originated in the Golf of Benin inWest-Africa, from where they have spread to the different diasporas of the Afro-Atlântic world, where they constitute, since the 19th Century, the most significant component in the construction of cultural and religious identities of diverse Afro-American societies, such asBrasil, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti and Jamaica among others. The major thesis of the present study consists in proving that, far beyond simple orality, it is actually to the oraliterary qualities of its texts that the yoruba culture owes the successful transmission, retention and preservation of its world-view and cultural values, so well-diffused in the Negro-Atlantic world-space as a civilizational process adhered to by millions ofindividuals. The thesis concludes by affirming that, through the activities of various agents of yorubanity operating on both sides of the Atlantic, who have learnt to ally their traditional knowledge to the advanced technology of the Post-Modern era, yoruba culturalscience and arts are becoming more and more present in the global cultural horizon as a favoured option in the process of de-homogenization of global cultural values, hitherto dominated, almost exclusively, by the North-American culture. |
