Descripción This Dissertation deals with the question of the usage and occurrence of Latin and Romancelanguage lexical borrowings in the English language of North America (USA), that are named ?Latinism? or ?Latinate Words?, upon the diversity of discourse and textual constructions and made up in the Journalism Discourse. As soon as the Dissertation is split up into two individual parts ? diachronic and synchrony ones ? the first-part chapters concerns with the theory of the formation of English lexicon. Main periods of Periodization of the Romance Lexical Borrowings into English are dealt: Zero Period, First Period, Second Period and Third Period. The second part is about the usage, function and discursive frameworks (like formality, standardization, and contextualization) which lead to the preponderance and permanence of Latinate Words in the journalism textual genres: newspaper report and interviews. The corpus has been selected from report articles and interview segments from the North-American magazine Newsweek, from 2003 to 2004. It aims to corroborate the veracity of more formal textual genres, closer to the writing structural characters, will bear a major number of Latinate Words.
