This work has the objective of evaluating the actions of corporate social responsibility for companies from Camaçari Industrial Complex, in Bahia state. In a larger perspective, it aims to identify the types of social actions developed by profitorganizations in Brazil, focusing on the legitimating of those actions based on a new approach expected from companies regarding to the social reality which they are inserted. It debates concepts relating to the social responsibility theme, raising a reflection about sources, consequences and, mainly, the real transforming perspective. It looks for identify the social actions models used and their relationship with the consolidated concepts of this theme. The study is essentiallyqualitative, taking as studied population the main representative companies of the Camaçari Industrial Complex, the most from chemical and petrochemical sector, and using basic data provided by those companies. Within conclusions, a main point is the increasing adhesion of companies to corporate social responsibility programs, however with different focus, conceptions and objectives, which confirms the large amplitude and conceptual imprecision of this theme, as well as makes difficult to infer about the real purpose of those social actions. Furthermore, it were identified some needs to social projects development, which could help actual and future social responsibility actions.
