In order to contribute with the understanding of the concepts around the Supply Chain Management, this study introduces a research carried out with five industrial companies in the Pólo Petroquímico de Camaçari and Complexo Industrial de Aratu, in Bahia State. The development of this study comprises the following steps. First of all, the revised literature was about the evolution of Supply Chain Management in Brazil and from a worldwide perspective. Then, the study describes the main concepts about SCM, and finally, still revising the literature, the study introduces some models developed to evaluate the SCM performance. From these models were extracted the four dimensions associated to SCM which were the following: Customers, Cost, Profitability and Flexibility. In the following step, the study analyzes the results found out in the interview process conducted with the mentioned companies, where aspects related with organizational structure, performance indicators, and models to measure SCM performance were investigated in order to define the development level of each aspect related with the companies. The study also proposes a model to measure SCM performance prepared under the vision of the dimensions and indicators collected from the literature and research. The conclusions were developed with the analysis of implementation of SCM concepts, the adoption of performance indicators to measure activities results, and the existing models to measure performance in SCM in each company. Finally, this study, has the expectation to contribute with the theme evolution and mainly through the proposed model, by measuring processes and activities in SCM and therefore translate it in effective actions to reach high competitiveness.
