This dissertation aims to evaluate the level of Entrepreneurship Orientation ? EO of the medium and large companies with high financial performance, operating at State of Bahia, on the period between 1997 and 2001. The method used to evaluate the Entrepreneurship Orientation involved theoretician and empiric analysis, concluding that the existent analyzed models presented a lot of limitations. A new analysis model were build that could approached the multifaceted nature of this phenomenon and attend the specific demands of this research. The utilized model define Entrepreneurship Orientation as a consequence of three dimentions: innovation, proactivity and propensity to risks. This dimensions were unfolded in components that are part of the functions innovation f(INO), proactivity f(PRO) and propensity to risks f(PRS), that, with there individuals weights, define the general function Entrepreneurship Orientation and its various levels. Based on this model, and with reference elements of quantitative and qualitative data of nationals researchs about the theme, there were developed a survey research, based on qualitative and quantitative methods, involving probabilistic sample of sixteen firms, selected from a number of ninety and four firms that obtained differentiated financial performance on the period. This study concluded from the researched firms, that there is a trend for medium-low innovation, medium-high proactivity and medium-low propensity to risks. From the view of Entrepreneurship Orientation, any firm were consider with high EO, 25% of them were considered medium- high EO, 68,7% obtained medium-low EO and only 6,3% reached the low EO level. No company were considered without EO. There was evidenced, them, that high financial performance firms present different levels of EO, as each model´s dimension present varied importance, this OE levels were originated from the variations of dimensions combinations and they oscillate from the influence of another diverse factors. Farther more, there were presented propositions form new actions and a future research agenda for the Corporate Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Orientation themes at State of Bahia.
