Descripción for the news horticulture SEEDLING POTATOES mn MR EDITOR editon being a friend to every thing relative to the improvement pro of agriculture and horticulture tic ti alture I 1 rejoice to see to what a state we are likely to improve almost every article of vegetables and grain by practising practicing the growing of new varieties adapted to this climate from seed for instance the potatoe Pot atoe which in europe and the eastern states is so much diseased that a greit great portion of the crop is lost by the rot which I 1 believe is nothing more or less than the old varieties being too long continued by cultivating from the roots instead of renewing or obtaining new varieties from seed in order to remedy the evil of the potatoe rot and arid to obtain varieties adapted to this place mr william stair es last year planted potatoe seed which produced several new varieties grown to their full size and some of excellent quality and on ort a further trial this year they have been proven to yield an excellent crop and to be well adapted to the climate in ate if this method is properly encouraged and carried out by doing away altogether the old varieties of potatoes and substituting new varieties and the valley will ere long be unequalled unequal led for superior kinds hinds of this excellent esculent root indeed let every person sow the seed and produce good varieties of the apple pear quince currant gooseberry strawberry and every eve every ry useful fruit and vegetable and we will soon have a strong and vigorous collection adapted ard acclimated of good fruit and vegetables from the fhe primitive stock of the valley independent of foreign importations EDWARD SAYERS it is announced that madam kossuth has joined her husband having escaped froni from hungary gary in in the disguise of a mendicant
