Descripción: Among 2823 out-patients visited the neuropsychiatric clinic in Chiba University Hospital during the past 10 years, we picked up 147 cases who were long-term patients and were difficult to differenciate whether due to organic or functional disturbances. According to the pattern of how they complained as time passed, these 147 cases were divided into 3 groups as M (monotonous complaints), F (fluctuant complaints) and U (unstable complaints). And each group was also studied and classified according to type of trauma (by Araki), CMI test and EEG's findings. They are reorganized into new 3 groups as X form, Y form and Z form. X-Form : are characterize as follows. I) Their contens of complaints is always the same but they are getting gradually better. (M-type) II) Type of Trauma (by Araki) belongs to type II or III. III) I or II group on CMI test. IV) Abnormal or borderline case in EEG. This group of patients seem to need mainly pharmacotherapy. Y-Form: I ) Their contents of complaints are always the same but their intensity fluctuated with the passage of time (F type). II) I orII type (Araki). III) II or III group in CMI test. IV) Borderline case in EEG. This group of patients seemed to need both pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Z-Form: I ) With the passage of time a changing the complaints occured (U-type). II) I or II type (Araki). III) III or IV group in CMI test. IV) Normal or borderline case in EEG. This group need only psychotherapy.
