Descripción: [EN]: The diaspores (spikes) of Aegilops neglecta contain 1-5 seeds with an average of 3.0. According to the size and position in the spike, 6 seed types have been distinguished. For each type, the percentage and speed of germination, in ligth and darkness, have been measured, as well as the germination inside the diaspore. The field census, in March, of 217 diaspores (in 0.25 m2) resulted in 241 seedlings and 156 seeds. These non-germinating seeds seem to have induced dormancy. The ecological significance of the somatic polymorphism in seeds (dormant vs. non-dormant) and the synaptospermy (joint dispersal) is discussed.
