The Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE) is a grassroots, community-based effort involving teachers, students, and scientists working together to create a library of educational resources and services to support Earth system science education. DLESE supports Earth system science education by providing access to high-quality collections of educational resources; access to Earth data sets and imagery; support services to help educators and learners effectively create, use, and share educational resources; and communication networks to facilitate interactions and collaborations across all dimensions of Earth system education.

1. Teacher to Ranger to Teacher Program Applications
Applications are being accepted for the Teacher to Ranger to Teacher (TRT) Program which links National Park units with teachers from Title 1 (30% of students on free or reduced cost lunch) urban and rural school districts. Teachers spend the summer working as park rangers, performing various duties dependent on the needs of the park. During the school year, teacher-rangers present curriculum-based lesson plans based on their summer?s experience. 2. Distance Learning: Earth and Environmental Science for Middle/High School Teachers
This free online distance learning workshop will run for eight weeks beginning February 16 and is designed for educators of grades 6-12. The workshop will focus on four general sections of Earth and environmental science curriculum: geology, ecology, hydrology, and atmospheric conditions. Participants will be provided with background information, classroom presentations, lessons, and activities in these areas. 3. Casco Bay Island Caretakers : May ? September 2008
Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) is seeking a two qualified island caretakers to help with the management and stewardship of the MITA islands in Casco Bay. The caretakers will reside on Jewell Island Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and make regular visits to several other publicly accessible islands in the bay to monitor recreational activity, provide stewardship services, and educate island visitors about Leave No Trace camping. Compensation will be a $5,000 living stipend per person.

4. Short Course: Introduction to Weather and Climate
The Illinois Institute of Technology is offering an online 3 credit hour course for K-12 Earth science teachers that addresses relevant and interesting areas of weather and climate, including how both of those affect people and are affected by people. It will provide enhanced understanding of weather-related concepts and inquiry-based instructional approaches. Participants will also be directed to resources that can be used for teaching these concepts.

5. LIKES: Living In the KnowlEdge Society Spring 08 Workshop
The LIKES (Living in the KnowlEdge Society) Project will conduct a workshop April 17-19, 2008, to develop and implement tools and techniques in computing education and in disciplines such as Music & Theatre, Geography, Physics, Biology, University Studies and Statistics. People in the geography/GIS area are especially encouraged to attend. Travel funds to cover all expenses (travel, hotel and meals) are available.

6. Earthwatch Environmental Awards for Educators
Earthwatch Environmental Awards for Educators program will select 10 educators in the U.S. to work with scientists as part of a field team conducting an environmental research project. The one to three week field project opportunities are open to educators of any discipline but participants must teach in communities where LyondellBasell has a facility. The award includes your Earthwatch project costs, a travel allowance, insurance, food and accommodation during the project dates.

7. Global Change and Evolution Projects Manager
The Paleontological Research Institution, Ithaca, NY, seeks an individual to manage the Global Change Project and Paleontological Research Partnership Project at the PRI and its Museum of the Earth. 8. Paleogeology Summer Workshops in Wyoming
Three workshops exploring evidence of prehistoric life during the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic eras will be offered in the area near Shell, Wyoming. Participants will learn fundamental principles of paleontology and sedimentary geology, fossil identification and navigation in the Bighorn Basin and Big Horn Mountains. Expect off-road hiking in moderately rugged terrain with little shade. College credit is available from Iowa State University. The cost per workshop is $250.00. 9. 2008 Summer Workshop for Faculty in Advanced ROV Building for Classroom Projects
Applications are being accepted for the 2008 MATE Center summer institute - Advanced Remotely Operated Vehicle Building for Classroom Projects. Educators will work in teams to build a small-scale, fully functional ROV that can be replicated with students. Participants will test the ROVs in a mini-competition during the institute. Field trips and opportunities to interact with marine professionals will be available. There is no fee for participating in these institutes. Lunches and some dinners will be provided by the MATE Center as well as hotel accommodations for participants living more than 50 miles from Monterey.

10. Hot Science - Cool Talks: God, Darwin, and Design
Kenneth R. Miller, a professor of biology at Brown University, evolutionary scientist, and the author of the most widely used high school biology textbook in America, will present a lecture on intelligent design in the science classroom. 11. Master of Arts in Environmental Leadership Degree
Applications are currently being accepted for Fall 2008 Master of Arts in Environmental Leadership degree from Naropa University. This residential program?s recently redesigned curriculum offers an effective schedule for working students with evening and late afternoon classes, as well as weekend programs. The two-year, 39-credit program is comprised of semester-long courses and an eight-day summer wilderness retreat that includes a three-day solo experience. An applied leadership project in an organizational or community setting is required in the final year. Applications received after January 15 will be considered on a space available basis.

12. NAGT Eastern Section Annual Meeting : Linking K-12 GeoScience to College and Careers
National Association of Geoscience Teachers-Eastern Section will hold their Annual Meeting May 1-4, 2008. Field trips, poster presentations, and featured talks from LDEO professor Wally Broecker and Nicholas Coch of Queens College will relate to the theme bringing K-12 teachers together with geoscience educators at the college level. Certificates of Participation will be available for professional development credit.

13. Post-Baccalaureate Education Fellowship in Estuarine Science
Applications are being accepted for the Charles C. and Rebecca S. Richardson Post-Baccalaureate Education Fellowship Position at the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve. The one-year fellowship will be awarded to a 2007 or 2008 graduate of a Maine college or university in environmental education, education, environmental science, marine biology, biology, or related field. The recipient will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of environmental study in coastal science, environmental stewardship, and environmental learning. Compensation will include an annual stipend, free communal housing and an annual health care stipend.

14. IPY Pole-to-Pole Videoconference and Follow-up Web Chat
Students from Alaska and Argentina can take part in Seasons and Biomes Project, an International Polar Year GLOBE web chat, to compare polar climates and environments. Students from around the world will be able to participate in the follow-up web forum on 10?11 April 2008, posting questions to scientists about current Polar and Boreal forest research, their own research interests, and topics that will lead to successful school/student research projects.

Geology of the Nenana Canyon is a two day field seminar that will explore the Denali fault line and Nenana River by hiking and rafting.
