  2. Genetic analysis of traits of interest in vitis vinifera using a progeny of wine grape : Monastrell x Syrah

    Bayo Canha, Almudena
Summary: The wine industry has a high value throughout the world, and the vine breeders are working to obtain new varieties well adapted to the new climatic conditions and with better genetic composition. In wine grapes there are some traits that are important for viticulture and the winery, such as phenological period, productivity, and the quality of the berries. Most of these traits are controlled by a large number of genes of minor effect, together with influences of the environment. Early identification of individuals carrying the desired allele combinations allows breeders to grow larger effective populations. One approach to the improvement...

Tetranychus urticae is a cosmopolitan and polyphagous spider mite pest that causes problems in more than 150 economically important crops. This species is a key pest in many of these hosts. On the other hand, Panonychus ulmi is also a widespread and polyphagous species important as pest of fruit trees and, specially, of the apple tree. The importance of spider mites as pests species have recently increased. The massive use of no selective pesticides has been one of the reasons, because these compounds have dramatically reduced the populations of its natural enemies. This fact, combined with the development of resistances...

The first objective was to determine the extraction of N, P, K, Ca and Mg using laboratory equipment and reference methods. The second objective was to diagnose the nutritional status of the crop (by spectroscopy) from NIR spectra, establishing multivariate calibration models into two different groups: cool dry intact collective (green leaves) and collective ground (dried and...

Two new types of wine killer yeasts with broad antifungal activity were analysed: Saccharomyces cerevisiae Klus and Torulaspora delbrueckii Kbarr. They killed all the previously known S. cerevisiae killer and sensitive strains, in addition to other non-Saccharomyces yeasts. Beta-glucan seems to be the cell wall receptor of the sensitive yeasts. The killer phenotype is encoded by a medium-size (1.3 to 1.7 kb) dsRNA virus, M, which seems to depend on a large-size 4.6 kb dsRNA virus, LA, for stable maintenance and replication. The ORF at the 5' region codes for a putative preprotoxin followed by an internal A-rich sequence and...
