101. Laminar free convection induced by a line heat source, and heat transfer from wires at small Grashof numbers - Liñán Martínez, Amable; Kurdyumov, V.
These constants are used when calculating the free convection heat transfer from wires (or cylinders of non-circular shape) at small Grashof numbers.

102. Free and forced convection around line sources of heat and heated cylinders in porous media - Kurdyumov, V.; Liñán Martínez, Amable
An analysis is presented for the steady, two-dimensional, free convection around line sources of heat and heated cylinders in unbounded saturated porous media.

103. Longitudinal acoustic instabilities in slender solid propellant rockets : linear analysis - García Schafer, Juan Esteban; Liñán Martínez, Amable
To describe the acoustic instabilities in the combustion chambers of laterally burning solid propellant rockets the interaction of the mean flow with the acoustic waves is analysed, using multiple scale techniques, for realistic cases in which the combustion chamber is slender and the nozzle area is small compared with the cross-sectional area of the chamber.

104. Confined axisymmetric laminar jets with large expansion ratios - Revuelta Bayod, Antonio; Sánchez Pérez, Antonio Luis; Liñán Martínez, Amable
This paper investigates the steady round laminar jet discharging into a coaxial duct when the jet Reynolds number, Re/sub j/, is large and the ratio of the jet radius to the duct radius, epsiv, is small.

105. On the interaction of vortices with mixing layers - Vera Coello, Marcos; Liñán Martínez, Amable
We describe the perturbations introduced by two counter-rotating vortices - in a two-dimensional configuration - or by a vortex ring - in an axisymmetric configuration - to the mixing layer between two counterflowing gaseous fuel and air streams of the same density.

106. Simulations of starting gas jets at low Mach numbers - Iglesias Estradé, Inmaculada; Vera Coello, Marcos; Sánchez Pérez, Antonio Luis; Liñán Martínez, Amable
The starting jet produced by the impulsively started discharge of a submerged gas stream of constant velocity through a circular orifice in a plane wall is investigated by integrating numerically the axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations for moderately large values of the jet Reynolds number.

107. Simplified approach to the numerical description of methane-air diffusion flames - Bollig, M.; Liñán Martínez, Amable; Sánchez Pérez, Antonio Luis; Williams, F.A.
Starting with a three-step reduced chemistry description that employes H2 and CO as the only intermediates not in steady state, a simplified formulation aimed at facilitating numerical computations of non-premixed methane-air systems is developed.

108. Vortex-induced extinction behavior in methanol gaseous flames: A comparison with quasi-steady extinction - Santoro, Vito S.; Kyritsis, D.C.; Liñán Martínez, Amable; Gomez, Alessandro
Using a combination of HCHO planar laser-induced fluorescence and laser Doppler velocimetry measurements, the extinction behavior of methanol counterflow diffusion flames was examined experimentally under conditions in which the extinction was brought about by a vortex generated on the oxidizer side.

109. A detailed chemistry model for transient hydrogen and carbon monoxide catalytic recombination on parallel flat Pt surfaces implemented in an integral code - Jiménez García, Miguel Ángel; Martín-Valdepeñas Yagüe, Juan Manuel; Martín-Fuertes Hernandez, Francisco; Fernández Benitez, José Antonio
A detailed chemistry model has been adapted and developed for surface chemistry, heat and mass transfer between H2/CO/air/steam/CO2 mixtures and vertical parallel Pt-coated surfaces.

110. The anchoring of gaseous jet diffusion flames in stagnant air - Kurdyumov, V.; Fernández Tarrazo, Eduardo; Liñán Martínez, Amable
A numerical analysis is presented to describe the structure of the attachment region of gaseous jet diffusion flames in stagnant air.

112. Autoignition of hydrogen/air mixtures by a thin catalytic wire - Treviño, C.; Liñán Martínez, Amable; Kurdyumov, V.
The autoignition of the catalytic reaction of hydrogen/air mixtures on thin palladium wires is analyzed in this paper.

113. Flame flashback and propagation of premixed flames near a wall - Kurdyumov, V.; Fernández Tarrazo, Eduardo; Liñán Martínez, Amable
The flashback or propagation of premixed flames along the near-wall low-velocity region at the base of a laminar boundary layer of a reactive mixture has been studied numerically.

114. Propagation of edge flames in counterflow mixing layers: Experiments and theory - Santoro, Vito; Liñán Martínez, Amable; Gomez, Alessandro
Edge flames were investigated in a methane/O2/N2 counterflow diffusion flame burner.

115. Diffusion flame attachment and lift-off in the near wake of a fuel injector - Fernández Tarrazo, Eduardo; Kurdyumov, V.; Liñán Martínez, Amable
An analysis is presented for the flow, temperature, and concentration fields in the region of attachment of fuel jet diffusion flames, near the wake of the fuel injector, where upstream heat conduction and diffusion are important.

116. Flame spread over solid fuels in opposite natural convection - Fernández Tarrazo, Eduardo; Liñán Martínez, Amable
The downward spread of a flame along the surface of a thermally thick solid fuel inclined at an angle to the vertical is investigated, The flow and the heat transfer in the flame front region that controls the spread rate are described numerically using a single-step Arrhenius model for the gas-phase reaction.

117. Transient ignition and combustion of diluted hydrogen/air mixtures by a thin catalytic wire - Treviño, C.; Higuera Antón, Francisco; Liñán Martínez, Amable
This paper reports on a study of transient ignition and combustion of hydrogen/air mixtures by a heated, thin catalytic wire in a natural convection environment.

118. Asymptotic structure of counterflow diffusion flames for large activation energies - Liñán Martínez, Amable
When the resulting maximum temperature is plotted in terms of the Damkohler number (which is inversely proportional to the flow velocity) the characteristic S curve emerges from the analysis, with segments from the curve resulting from: (a) A nearly frozen ignition regime where the temperature and concentrations deviations from its frozen flow values are small.

119. Structure of a flame front propagating against the flow near a cold wall - Kurdyumov, V.; Liñán Martínez, Amable
The flashback or propagation of premixed flames against the flow of a reacting mixture, along the low velocity region near a cold wall, is investigated numerically.

120. A comparison of computational and experimental lift-off heights of coflow laminar diffusion flames - Walsh, Kevin T.; Fielding, Joseph; Smooke, Mitchell D.; Long, Marshall B.; Liñán Martínez, Amable
As a sensitive marker of changes in flame structure, the number densities of excited-state CH (denoted CH*), and excited-state OH (denoted OH*) are imaged in coflow laminar diffusion flames.
