  4. Fast facial expression recognition for emotion awareness disposal

Eckert, Martina; Gil Gaitán, Almudena; Zapatero Olmedillo, Diego; Meneses Chaus, Juan Manuel; Martínez Ortega, José Fernán
This paper presents a simple and fast expression recognition algorithm aimed at running in a secondary plane to provide emotion awareness for primary applications as e.g. exergames, in real time. The algorithm is based on the extraction of 19 facial landmarks which are used to detect some of the Action Units (AUs) defined in the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) and a newly created one. In addition, the new concept of Combined Action Units (CAUs) is presented. Those are grouped AUs which are detected as a unit. The applied emotion classification is based on logical rules, no learning is involved....

  5. A modular middleware approach for exergaming

Eckert, Martina; Gómez Martinho, Ignacio; Meneses Chaus, Juan Manuel; Martínez Ortega, José Fernán
This paper presents the design of a new exergaming environment consisting of a modular middleware tool aimed at serving for intelligent adventure games. The middleware provides a modular and user-adaptive interface for data exchange between different devices (to date it supports a motion capture camera, a mobile phone, and a VR headset) and Blender. The target group is formed by young people between ages 6 to 26 with different physical diseases (muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, accidents, etc.). The gaming environment focuses especially on user awareness, immersion, and adaptability to special needs.

  6. MoKey - A motion based keyboard interpreter

Eckert, Martina; López García, Marcos; Lázaro Basanta, Carlos; Meneses Chaus, Juan Manuel; Martínez Ortega, José Fernán
In this paper the authors present a new middleware for mapping gestures, obtained by a motion sensing camera device, to key events which are consumed by a standard off-the-shelf application. The aim is twofold: accessibility for users which are not able to use the keyboard because of physical impairments and the use of standard games for doing physical exercises. Hereby, special attention is laid on the adaptability to user requirements and easiness of configuration for the user himself and non-expert assistants. The actual state of our system is compared to similar proposals in terms of usability and performance, finally future...

  7. A multi functional plug-in for exergames

Eckert, Martina; Gómez Martinho, Ignacio; Meneses Chaus, Juan Manuel; Martínez Ortega, José Fernán
This paper describes the development of a software complement for Blender (a freely available animation software) which allows to insert motion data obtained from a motion capture camera device. The main target is to provide Blender with a tool to develop exergames, i.e. serious games for performing physical exercises, which are fully adaptive to the user?s needs and capabilities, especially addressing chronical patients or handicapped. The plugin incorporates both: motion control and recording, allowing to store user movements. Transmission is realized via the OSC (Open Sound Control) protocol. The tool is still under development, here a first version is presented...

  8. Passive neutron area monitor with TLD pairs

Guzmán-García, Karen Arlete; Borja Hernández, C.G.; Valero Luna, C.; Hernández Dávila, V.M.; Vega-Carrillo, Héctor René
The response of a passive neutron area monitor with pairs of thermoluminescent dosimeters has been calculated using the Monte Carlo code MCNP5. The response was calculated for one TLD 600 located at the center of a polyethylene moderator. The response was calculated for 47 monoenergetic neutron sources ranging from 1E(-9) to 20 MeV. Response was calculated using two irradiation geometries, one with an upper source and another with a lateral source. For both irradiation schemes the response was calculated with the TLD in two positions, one parallel to the source and another perpendicular to the source. The advantage of this passive...

  9. Non-cooperative target identification based on singular value decomposition

Hernán Vega, Olga; López Rodríguez, Patricia; Escot Bocanegra, David; Fernández Recio, Raúl; Bravo Muñoz, Ignacio
Non-Cooperative Target Identification based on High Resolution Range Profiles is a key research domain in the Defense industry. In this paper a method based on the application of Singular Value Decomposition to a matrix of range profiles is defined. The decomposition is applied to reduce dimensionality and to accomplish recognition in the transformed domain. So as to confirm the feasibility of the methodology, identification experiments of profiles coming from electromagnetic simulations are conducted, revealing promising results.

  10. Non-cooperative identification of civil aircraft using a generalised mutual subspace method

López Rodríguez, Patricia; Escot Bocanegra, David; Fernández Recio, Raúl; Bravo Muñoz, Ignacio
The subspace-based methods are effectively applied to classify sets of feature vectors by modelling them as subspaces. However, their application to the field of non-cooperative target identification of flying aircraft is barely seen in the literature. In these methods, setting the subspace dimensionality is always an issue. Here, it is demonstrated that a modified mutual subspace method, which uses softweights to set the importance of each subspace basis, is a promising classifier for identifying sets of range profiles coming from real in-flight targets with no need to set the subspace dimensionality in advance. The assembly of a recognition database is also...

  11. SensoTrust: trustworthy domains in wireless sensor networks

Castillejo Parrilla, Pedro; Martínez Ortega, José Fernán; López Santidrián, M. Lourdes; Sánchez Alcón, José Antonio
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) based on wearable devices are being used in a growing variety of applications, many of them with strict privacy requirements: medical, surveillance, e-Health, and so forth. Since private data is being shared (physiological measures, medical records, etc.), implementing security mechanisms in these networks has become a major challenge. The objective of deploying a trustworthy domain is achieving a nonspecific security mechanism that can be used in a plethora of network topologies and with heterogeneous application requirements. Another very important challenge is resilience. In fact, if a stand-alone and self-configuring WSN is required, an autosetup mechanism is...
