1. Working with OpenCV and Intel Image Proccessing Libraries. Proccessing image data tools - Mora Lizán, Francisco José; Llorens Largo, Faraón; Pujol López, Mar; Rizo Aldeguer, Ramón; Villagrá Arnedo, Carlos
We will provide an overview of Intel OpenCV and Image Processing Libraries. We present an application of real-time gesture recognition using the libraries (segmenting a foreground object, creating Motion History Image (MHI), updating the intensity gradients, and recovering directional motion information). Some times most companies spent a lot of time and money implementing those well-known techniques. OpenCV and IPL implement a huge amount of standard and advanced image processing techniques. With OpenCV we now have access to a well implemented version that is fast and reliable.

2. Disparity estimation in stereoscopic vision by simulated annealing - Compañ Rosique, Patricia; Satorre Cuerda, Rosana; Rizo Aldeguer, Ramón
This paper presents a correspondence algorithm for stereo vision based on an integrated model that includes several units corresponding to different stages: features extraction, minimization of an energy function using simulated annealing, multiresolution and interpolation. Firstly the original images are scaled down to considerably reduce their size. From the reduced images a disparity map is obtained, which is used as the basis to develop the complete process. For this reason an energy function is built and minimized using a multiresolution scheme. The energy function integrates features such as grey level, non parametric transforms, edges, smoothness and uniqueness. The obtained disparity...

3. Improving depth estimation using colour information in stereo vision - Compañ Rosique, Patricia; Satorre Cuerda, Rosana; Rizo Aldeguer, Ramón; Molina Carmona, Rafael
This paper presents a multi-scale stereo correspondence algorithm that incorporates different modules corresponding to every stage. A correspondence method is proposed based on minimizing an energy function using simulated annealing. Multiresolution techniques are also introduced to improve both response time and the quality of results. A technique of calculating the distance between two colours is defined for comparing colour features in HLS model. This measure not only highlights the difference in the H component but also considers the differences in S and L values. A metrics for evaluating the quality of a disparity map is defined. Experimental results with real...

5. Scene reconstruction and geometrical rectification from stereo images - Gallego Sánchez, Antonio Javier; Molina Carmona, Rafael; Villagrá Arnedo, Carlos
A system to reconstruct three-dimensional scenes from stereo images is presented. The reconstruction is based on a dense disparity image obtained by a process of window correlation, applying a geometrical rectification before generating a three-dimensional matrix which stores the spatial occupation. The geometrical rectification is essential to correct the conical perspective of the camera and to obtain real scenes. For the geometrical rectification, three approaches are proposed, based on one linear and two logarithmic functions. As a result, the rectification allows the system to adequately correct the reconstruction, showing that the best choice depends on the features of the original...

13. Extending Korf's ideas on the pursuit problem - Reverte Bernabeu, Juan; Gallego Durán, Francisco; Llorens Largo, Faraón
The prey-predator pursuit problem is referenced many times in literature. It is a generic multi-agent problem whose solutions could by applied to many particular instances. Solutions proposed usually apply non-supervised learning algorithms to train prey and predators. Most of these solutions criticize the greedy algorithm originally proposed by Korf. However, we believe that the improvement obtained by these new proposals does not pay off with relation to their complexity. The method used by Korf is a natural way to surround a prey without explicit communication between predators. The knowledge one predator has about others is limited just to what it can see....

14. Cooperation strategies for pursuit games: from a greedy to an evolutive approach - Reverte Bernabeu, Juan; Gallego Durán, Francisco; Satorre Cuerda, Rosana; Llorens Largo, Faraón
Developing coodination among groups of agents is a big challenge in multi-agent systems. An appropriate enviroment to test new solutions is the prey-predator pursuit problem. As it is stated many times in literature, algorithms and conclusions obtained in this environment can be extended and applied to many particular problems. The first solutions for this problem proposed greedy algorithms that seemed to do the job. However, when concurrency is added to the environment it is clear that inter-agent communication and coordination is essential to achieve good results. This paper proposes two new ways to achieve agent coodination. It starts extending a...

15. Mixing greedy and evolutive approaches to improve pursuit strategies - Reverte Bernabeu, Juan; Gallego Durán, Francisco; Satorre Cuerda, Rosana; Llorens Largo, Faraón
The prey-predator pursuit problem is a generic multi-agent testbed referenced many times in literature. Algorithms and conclusions obtained in this domain can be extended and applied to many particular problems. In first place, greedy algorithms seem to do the job. But when concurrence problems arise, agent communication and coordination is needed to get a reasonable solution. It is quite popular to face these issues directly with non-supervised learning algorithms to train prey and predators. However, results got by most of these approaches still leave a great margin of improvement which should be exploited. In this paper we propose to start from a greedy...

16. Conceptual mini-games for learning - Illanas Vila, Ana Isabel; Gallego Durán, Francisco; Satorre Cuerda, Rosana; Llorens Largo, Faraón
The increasing popularity of computer games has turned children and teenagers into regular users. Serious Games expect to give them more than just entertainment. Although the development of Serious Games is increasing, there still are few companies, studies and research groups dedicated to this area. Also, most projects in this field target sophisticated and costly-to-develop computer games aimed to cover a wide range of academic content. Therefore, these games lose concreteness and complicate the evaluation of their real educational value, making it difficult for students to focus on important concepts. Moreover, these games are not reusable and it is extremely difficult for...

19. Distance histogram to centroid as a unique feature to recognize objects - Arques Corrales, Pilar; Molina Carmona, Rafael; Pujol López, Mar; Rizo Aldeguer, Ramón
The shape of objects plays an essential role among the different aspects of visual information. A 2D silhouette often conveys enough information to allow the correct recognition of the original 3D object. Distance Histogram to Centroid will be used as the unique feature to totally describe an object and to distinguish it from all the other objects in the scene. The proposed system has been proved to be robust to discriminate between classes in a given set of objects The main advantages are the elimination of the feature selection process and avoiding the problem of dimensionality.
