The Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE) is a grassroots, community-based effort involving teachers, students, and scientists working together to create a library of educational resources and services to support Earth system science education. DLESE supports Earth system science education by providing access to high-quality collections of educational resources; access to Earth data sets and imagery; support services to help educators and learners effectively create, use, and share educational resources; and communication networks to facilitate interactions and collaborations across all dimensions of Earth system education.

Oceans and Undersea Life
This collaborative thematic unit can be presented as a school-wide theme, or used for a single class. It features materials and ideas to help younger students learn about the oceans and seas of the world, the animal life that swims in them and the countries that border them. Materials include objectives, ideas for decorating classrooms, suggestions for activities, discussion questions, and an extensive list of web-based, video, and written resources. This article discusses the work of scientists at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Johnson Space Center, who believe they have found convincing data that extraterrestrial life has existed in the solar system, specifically on Mars. Topics include the criteria for something to be considered living, what forms living organisms on other worlds might take, and what conditions are necessary to support life as we know it. Oceans: SOS!
This classroom activity is designed to help students become aware of natural and human-induced threats facing sea turtles. They will become familiar with the range, environment, and predators of different species of sea turtles. The activity includes decorating the classroom to resemble the sea, and constructing mobiles by cutting out images of turtles from books or magazines.
