The Rhodes University Private Bill was passed by Parliament in April 1949, which marks the date of independent accreditation of Rhodes as a University. Before that date, we
operated as a constituent college of the University of South Africa. Theses from the pre-1949 bill era bear the affiliation “Rhodes University College”.
