  1. Critical temperature evaluation for laterally unrestrain steel I-beams in case of fire

    Fire resistance may be determined by simple calculation models applied to individual members and should be based on safe results. This safety can be verified on three distinct domains, such as, temperature domain, load bearing domain and time domain. The temperature domain was chosen to show how a beam element might achieve the design limit state by lateral instability, for a specified degree of utilisation.   2. Combined effect of damage during installation and long-term mechanical behavior of geosynthetics

    One of the main questions in using geosynthetics in civil works or ground applications is their durability, in particular, the mechanical actions to which they are subject during the installation processes and construction. Under these actions the geosynthetics can be damaged and the changes in their properties can compromise the performance of the constructions where these materials are used.   3. Danificação durante a instalação de geotêxteis não tecidos: análise laboratorial da influência do tipo de material granular e da energia de compactação

    A danificação durante a instalação (DDI) de geossintéticos tem sido alvo de estudos extensivos, sendo normalizada com a introdução da ENV ISO 10722-1 (1997) sob a forma de um ensaio de identificação para a simulação laboratorial da danificação. Foi estabelecido um programa de ensaios de modo a contribuir para a avaliação do efeito do material granular e da energia de compactação usados no ensaio. Realizaram-se ensaios de DDI laboratorial em diferentes geotêxteis não tecidos, mediante a utilização de dois materiais granulares e duas energias de compactação.     Damage during installation of geosynthetics has been subjected to extended studies, and became standardised with the introduction of ENV ISO 10722-1 in form of an index test for laboratory simulated installation damage. These tests should be carried out using a synthetic granular material, however, some authors have discussed the legitimacy of using such material.
