Strawberry is an important horticulture crop which is traditionally grown in raised beds covered with plastic. The high cost of removal and treatment of plastics waste led to the study with films of natural and biodegradable source. The objectives of this study were to compare the effect of two mulchs, a conventional plastic and a biodegradable film, in productivity and the incidence and severity of diseases and pests. The objectives of this study were to identify: (1) the most abundant thrips species in
blackberry, blueberry and strawberry crops, comparing its abundance between cultivars and
crop plants localization; (2) weed species that may contribute to the presence of thrips and
auxiliary insects in the crops.

In this work the response of lettuce (Lactuca sativa) to oxidative stress induced by potentially toxic elements (PTE) and NaCl was evaluated.
In the germination and growth assays Cd, As, Cu, Mn, Zn (0-500 μM) and NaCl (0-500 mM) was applied separately for assessing the germination rate and growth for 2 weeks. The germination rate was affected only by Cu, Zn and NaCl. Biomass and tolerance index were affected at the higher concentrations of all PTE and NaCl.

For this study we produced three different formulations to obtain edible films and
coatings based on chitosan, incorporated with beeswax, glycerol and a surfactant (Tween
80). It was studied the effect of beeswas concentration (0%, 10% e 20% wax mass per
polymer mass) in the properties of the films obtained.
Regarding the mechanical properties of the films, the results show that the tensile
strength, elongation, Young's modulus, perforation tension and deformation were not
significantly affected by the wax concentration used.
The Water Vapor Permeability (WVP) and hydrophilicity of the films decreased with
wax incorporation. The WVP decreased about 99% due to the permeability of the films
