En este trabajo se presentan los valores de los
parámetros genéticos para prolificidad de la oveja
Canaria de Pelo, obtenidos a partir de la utilización
de un modelo animal con observaciones repetidas
sobre la información generada en los núcleos de
control de rendimiento cárnico de la raza. El modelo
de análisis genético incluyó como efectos
fijos: ganadería, año, época y número de parto; y
como efectos aleatorios, el genotipo aditivo del
animal y el efecto ambiental permanente.
Se utilizaron, como base de información, un
total de 7657 partos registrados en 2889 animales
de 5 ganaderías entre los años 1996 y 2008, lo que

Geographical concentration and scarce census of the Retuertas horse force to design a complete conservation plan. One of the used tools as a mean of ex situ conservation was the creation of a germplasm bank. Previously, a study of the se-minal quality and its aptitude for freezing was developed. Results were: volume 23,25±12,72 ml; concentration 335,83±135,60x106 spermatozoa/ml; basal motility 3,83±0,98 (1-5) and progressive motility 60,42±15,42 (0-100%); all of them shown significant differences among stallions.

The breeding program of the Spanish-Arabian horse is in process of development and, for this reason, is necessary to know its population structure from the information registered in the Herd Book to design strategy for its improvement and utilization. An assistant computer program for the morphologic evaluation of the Canary Dairy Goat is described. This is presented in two versions, the first one for its apLication in stable, the second one for the competitive evaluation in exhibitions. With this program the evaluation rapidity increases, the information flows towards the central database is enhanced, the punctuation is objectived, and also it collaborates with the homogeneisation of the evaluation criteria.

A study was made of the growth of Retinto beef cattle through analysis of factors affecting the characteristic linear growth curve of this breed in its developmental environment. By addressing these factors, growth and development may be modified in order to ensure that weight and composition meet market demand. In the present paper we have made an evaluation of the milking and reproductive aptitudes of the Majorera Goat with a view to the productive characterization and definition of these animals, all from the Fuerteventura"s Milking Control programme. In this study 452 animals have participated, belonging to 7 of the most representative farms on the island. With respect to the reproductive aptitude. we have found interesting values of 1-95±0,03 of mean prolificily; with an oulstanding of 56.2 p.100 of double kidding, and only 4-6 p.100 abortions. The adaptation of Liza ramada to fresh water with low salinity (less than 1 p.100) was investigated to restock ponds and continental waters. Methods of capture, technical transport from capture site to a breeding experimental pool and the necessary arrangements are descri¬bed. After various tests with 37 samples of L. ramada w e adapted this species to the experimental conditions, since no death was observed; therefore we conclude that it is adaptable and can be easyly cultivated in fresh water.

The Palmera sheep breed is officially registered in the Spanish Breeds Catalogue in 1997, as autoctonus breed with a special protection. The census in 1996 was not above 150 animals (82 females, 6 males and 60 animals under 12 months). The sheep census of the Canary Islands is about 43.000 animals, of this the Canarian Sheep Breed is above 90 percent. It presents a great interest for obtaining milk and meat as quality products. Attending exclusively to the census, there is no problem of conservation, but this breed is affected by hybridisation process, overcoat in Tenerife. Here we present a study about the breed characterisation, analysing descriptive parameters as morphometric and faneroptic, and zoometric parameters of 168 animals (156 females and 12 males) in La Palma and Tenerife.

It is proposed an interbreed selection scheme using hybrids herds for the genetic connection of pure herds, it permit to develop global genetic evaluations. Non additive effects are introduced in the model for the genetic analysis. The results of the assisted reproduction program by means of the artificial insemination using fresh semen obtained in the ram centre of the National Association of Breeders of the Segureña Sheep (ANCOS) are shown. The index of fertility obtained is slightly higher than 40 percent and the index of prolificacy over 150 percent, standing out that these results do not correspond to a experimental station or intensive herds, in spite of this they have been obtained in hard conditions and clearly extensive systems. The evolution of the mean breeding values and its mean fiability of the weight and growing traits are descrived in the Segureño sheep breed have been studied using the information of the breeding program of the breed.
