The aim of this paper is to analyze the technological management in a dairy industry, making it possible to suggest improvements.
An open-ended questionnaire was applied, considering two main points: the classification and comprehension of the company’s
performance in relation to the technologies available and the understanding of the industry’s technological motivations, making it
possible to analyze technological behaviors, forms of acquisition and adoption of technological innovations. It was observed that the
company loses competitiveness due to the technology adopted, when compared to bigger players and when the distribution of its
products is carried out through supermarkets. The changes introduced in the products’ portfolio were...

The objective of this study is to evaluate the use of standardization and classification rules, proposed by the CEAGESP, by peach
producers and wholesalers and to identify the effects of this procedure on the supply and commercialization of the fruit. The
methodology used included qualitative study and analysis of study cases. Information was gathered through interviews with
producers from the state of São Paulo and with the wholesalers of the Entreposto Terminal de São Paulo. Most producers are
optimistic about the use of standardization and classification rules and emphasize that their implementation is the reason behind the
success of peach commercialization. They invest in improving...

This paper discusses the conditions of birth and growth of business networks in the veterinary drugs sector based on Brazilian
examples examined by the authors. The beginnings of business networks are approached from two paradigms, one advocating the idea
that the birth and growth of networks depend on some variables’ historical processes which define social networks, such as trust,
cooperation and commitment, and another postulating that these attributes are not necessary for the formation of networks, it being
sufficient to have only consistent economic expectations and a proper agreement. The aim of this paper was to assess which of the
two network paradigms (the social...

The study verifies, between march 2005 and march 2006, if there is any difference between the stock yields of a sample of companies
listed in Bovespa that adopt the principles of Corporate Governance, in different levels, in relation to the companies of the traditional
market. The data were extracted from Economatica’s database; 130 non-financial companies with higher liquidity stock were selected,
of which 65 adopt Corporate Governance practices, and 65 operate according to the traditional market. To conduct the study, the
Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Student’s t test were used. The results show that the mean yield of companies that adopt
different Corporate Governance...

The Brazilian poultry chain has been intensely restructured during the last few years to remain competitive in the internal and external
markets. Analysis of all the chain levels indicates that the processing segment is characterized by an intense innovation process, in
both its product and its processes, resulting in new and improved products and even more automated manufacturing processes. In this
context, the poultry processing companies have developed strategies resulting in innovations in the product presentation for the
internal consumer, access to new niches in the internal market and adaptations to the demands of the international market. This paper
aims to demonstrate the strategies adopted...

Fair trade is a commercial practice that aims to help small farmers in underdeveloped countries through mechanisms that can modify
the supply chain. This paper, through exploratory, quantitative and transversal research, tries to investigate this structuring effect of
fair trade on the productive nodule of the chain, examining the cohesion caused by this intervention on a small Cooperative of Coffee
Family Farmers (organic and conventional SAT-no agro toxic substances used in production) in Poço Fundo in the state of Minas
Gerais. The social network and supply chain perspectives, suported by Granovetter’s embeddeness theory, were used to analyze the
information surveyed. Although a high degree of...

The objective of this work is to verify the interest, among the farmers from the fruit and vegetable production units of the 4th Colony
micro region in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in participating in associations or cooperatives, which would allow them to participate
in the increasingly competitive markets. A structured questionnaire, built in Likert scale, was applied through interviews to all the
producers of the districts that best represented the socioeconomic and environmental conditions of the studied micro region. The data
were treated with factorial analysis, descriptive statistics and rank tests. A pre-disposition to create company associations was
observed among most of...

The objective of this paper was to analyze, in terms of marketing strategy, the geographical indications (GIs) as a competitive
differential in the wine market. The paper is based on research that targeted the wine consumers from the Distrito Federal (Federal
District) with a high degree of involvement with the product. This research had an exploratory-descriptive nature and used self-administrated
structured questionnaires. Marketing strategies, mainly market segmentation and positioning and consumers’ behavior,
were its conceptual basis. The target group’s perceptions about several marketing factors which influence wine consumption,
especially the geographical indications, were analyzed. According to the consumers, the GIs are a differentiating factor in...

The growth of the world’s organic food market in the last ten years has been raising the demand for studies related to this theme.
Supermarkets have been proving themselves relevant actors in the distribution of these products in Brazil and in the external market.
This paper aims to describe the characteristics of the consumer behavior of organic fruits and vegetables in the city of Uberlândia in
the state of Minas Gerais. More specifically, it aims to evidence this behavior through the enchainment of attributes, consequences
(benefits that these attributes provide) and the consumers’ personal values. 30 in-depth interviews were done using the laddering
