After a historiographical survey of the most relevant authors who have dealt with fortifications in the Late Medieval Kingdom of Cordoba ( Spain ), we have tried to establish an evolution in the different ways of approaching the study of this particular buildings. At the same time, we analyse the various opportunities for ressearching that have come out, both from restoration projects carried out on architectural heritage and from the main methodology advances and new approaches wich have been developed in recent years.
The article examines a Julio-Claudian iconographic type attested by three sculptures, each representing a togated headless man with an eagle at his feet. The first is preserved in the Dutch Institute of Rome: its findspot was unknown but it is probably possible now to recognise its provenance from the 1853 excavations in Ardea. The second was found in 1982 in the Roman colony of Gravisca; the third is in the Boboli Gardens of Florence.
In the imperial statues of the Julio-Claudian period, the toga capite velato marks the pietas of the emperor. Instead the eagle is the bird of Jupiter...

In this archaelogical action it has to be emphasized the discovery in situ of some roman wal coverings decorated with paintings. The preserved paintings imitate the marble walls of luxurious houses, fitting into the "First pompeian style", where architectural simulation is reduced to representation of a building of the high imperial period, and it's situated nearby the Porta Principal Sinistra (The main left gate) in the west side of the roman wal, nowadays known as Puerta de Gallegos.

This article gives a general view on the stratigraphical sequence and pottery of the excavation in the "Roman Patio" of the "Museo Arqueológico Provincial" (Córdoba), carried out in May, 1994. Thanks to this excavation, the existence of a Roman theatre in the area was stated and there could be dated its North access (a square), the foundations of the Summa Cavea, and the water supply systems, which date back to the Augustean period. In addition, there could also be defined and dated a complete sequence, which spans the period from the second half of the third century a.d. (in which...

In this paper, we analyze the diverse archeological information (specially the sculptures) of Augustan and Julio-Claudian ages found in the so-called «foro de Altos de Santa Ana », located in Ángel de Saavedra's street and its environs. This public area of the ancient Colonia Patricia was related with the imperial cult from the first time and was presided over a sacred place dedicated to Diana and, perhaps, to Apolo.

In this paper, we pretend to analyze one of the most interesting features observed about the settlement patterns in the andalusian area in protohistoric and roman ages. We are refering to the so-called "torres", frequentely cited and researched by numerous scholars.
The first step will be the analysis of the few but significative written sources and, subsequently, studying the archaeological data and the interpretations and hipothesis developed until now. Finally, due to the fact that this kind of monuments were built in roman times, we will phocus on the role played in the settlement framework of this age and which...

Our study is focused on a set of small sculpture, made on stone, from Torreparedones sanctuary and some andalusian sites, which common feature is its seated position. Several proposals about what they represent on the Iberian culture are collected. We think, based on the parallelism between the ancient and actual religiousness, that these sculptures are just votive offering (the votive offering phenomenon is the best evidence). Its seated position can be related with the named anatomical votive offerings and particularly with those in which legs are represented .
