The goal of this Thesis is reducing the global penalty associated to branch mispredictions, in terms of both performance degradation and energy consumption, through the use of confidence estimation. The reduction of this global penalty has been achieved, firstly, by increasing the accuracy of branch predictors, next, by reducing the time necessary to restore the processor from a mispredicted branch, and finally, by reducing the energy consumption due to the execution of incorrect instructions. Multiwavelets are new addition to the body of wavelet theory. There are many types of symmetric multiwavelets such as Geronimo-Hardin-Massopust (GHM) and Chui-Lian (CL) multiwavelets. However, the matrix filter generating the GHM system multiwavelets does not satisfy the symmetric property. For this reason, this paper presents a new method to construct the symmetric orthogonal matrix filter, which leads to the symmetric orthogonal multiwavelets (SOM). The identification and classification of seeds are of major technical and economical importance in the agricultural industry. To automate these activities, like in ocular inspection one should consider seed size, shape, color and texture, which can be obtained from seed images. In this work we complement previous studies on the discriminating power of these characteristics for the unique identification of seeds of 57 weed species. In particular, we discuss the possibility of improving the naïve Bayes and artificial neural network classifiers previously developed in order to avoid the use of color features as classification parameters.

Object-oriented software development has proven effective for systems development, but the creation of reusable and changeable software architectures is still a challenging task. Design patterns capture the expertise for reusable design solutions, but there is no methodical approach to providing conceptual design building blocks in tangible and composable form.
