1. Information technology adoption and use in U.S. scheduled air cargo forwarders and airlines - Forster, Paul W.; King, John L.; Nault, Barrie R.; Regan, Amelia
This report presents a synopsis of the responses of forwarder and airline air cargo executives to a survey administered in late 1999 and early 2000. The study was directed at understanding information technology adoption and use in the U.S. scheduled air cargo sector. The report investigates dimensions of perceptions of IT, IT adoption, operational performance and airline-forwarder relations in the U.S. scheduled air cargo industry. Technologies include EDI, electronic commerce, cargo community systems, barcoding, tracking and tracing, radio, wireless, and automated vehicle location systems. The study finds that IT adoption is not evenly distributed and varies across several dimensions. It...

2. The effects of information format and shopping task on consumers' online shopping behavior - Hong, Weiyin; Thong, James Y. L.; Tam, Kar Yan
As B2C e-commerce proliferates, understanding consumers' online shopping behavior becomes increasingly important. A feature central to the success of commercial websites is the design of an effective interface to present product information. However, there is a lack of empirical research on the effects of different information formats on consumers' online shopping behavior. Based on the cognitive fit theory, the competition for attention theory, and the scanpath theory, we developed a research model to investigate the effects of information format and shopping task on both performance outcomes and perceptions of the shopping experience. A laboratory experiment was conducted to examine the...

3. The effects of presentation mode and information format on consumers' online browsing performance and perceptions - Hong, Weiyin; Thong, James Y. L.; Tam, Kar Yan
Browsing is a major activity that online consumers often engaged in. As the virtual marketplace is totally removed from the physical presence of products, the interface of a website has great potential to influence consumers' online browsing behavior. In this study, we focus on the presentation mode and information format of product listing pages, where a number of products are displayed together to allow further exploration of any of them. An experiment was conducted to examine the effects of two presentation modes: image versus text, based on the dual coding theory, and two information formats: list versus matrix, based on...

4. Information seeking behavior on multimedia in digital libraries : a study of P2P network - Chan, K. Y.; Kwok, James S. H.
Digital Library (DL) has facilitated the distribution of multimedia contents in the networked information environment. Designers of DLs have typically focused on development of sophisticated query algorithms and data structuring models. Without thorough understanding of users' information seeking behavior, designers of DLs are unable to address users' information needs. Existing studies do not specifically investigate the searching behavior of users who look for multimedia contents, therefore, we choose peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, where multimedia contents are extensively distributed, to study users' behavior. In this paper, we propose a methodology to overcome the difficulty in tracing individuals' searching activities, the obstacle brought...
