    Os jovens com diferenças significativas relativamente a outros grupos etários correm riscos de vária ordem. O consumo de tabaco e álcool em estudantes do ensino superior poderá ocorrer dentro de um contexto académico de maior vulnerabilidade pela envolvência peculiar, ritualizada e institucionalizada. Com o objetivo de avaliar o padrão de consumo destas substâncias e identificar possíveis mudanças decorrentes do ingresso e permanência neste nível de ensino, bem como analisar o sentido dessa mudança aplicou-se um inquérito de cariz quantitativo.   2. Accidents at work and its impact on a hospital in northern Portugal

    In order to describe the accidents at work in a hospital in northern Portugal and analyze its main impact in the period 2008 to 2010, we conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study. The information was obtained using the registration notification of accidents at work for 387 workers. The higher prevalence of accidents fell in superior health technician (56.1%) in workers of the female gender (81.9%) in the age group 30-39 years (37.2%), with higher education to the 12th years (55.8%), working in shifts (72.4%) and inpatient services (35.9%).   3. Health impact of living near an abondoned mine - Case study: Jales Mines

    The activities of mining exploitation in Campo de Jales were performed in an uncontrolled way and gave rise to serious environmental contamination: rubbish depositories have been accumulated with no treatment or maintenance. An investigation developed around Jales Mine showed the existence of some chemical impact originated from the waste produced during mining activities. Some "black spots" for a wide suite of heavy metals were determined in stream sediments and alluvium drained from Jales tailings, which could constitute hazard factors for the area and potential danger for public health.     Campo de Jales is a village surrounding the abandoned Jales mine. The area is heavily contaminated with heavy metals and dusts from large tailings piles as result of centuries of mining operations.
