Guijo Mauri, Juan Manuel; Lacalle Rodríguez, Raquel
The aims of this study are to review the types of information which can be potentially obtained in the research of the populational dynamic on Xth century in Cordoba, based on an anthropological sample proceeding from an islamic cementery. 5.

The use of forensic techniques when studying partial or badly-conserved human remains is very important when we want to determine age, sex, and race, as well as parental relation between two or more individuals. Of these techniques, some of the simplest but most reliable are those related to the dental studies of the retrieved remains. Finding dental anomalies may give useful information about diseases suffered by the individual (congenital or infecto-contagious) and possible family relation between several individuals. This study describes several cases of dental agenesia (absence of teeth caused by lack of formation of these teeth) found in populations...

Vizcaíno Sánchez, Jaime; Madrid Balanza, María José

Two phases of use are distingued in the cemetery, whose characteristics are studied. Thus, we analyse the different types of tomb, the funerary offerings, and the ritual aspects. Also, the analyse of the internal dynamic of this necropolis, gives us reason to considerer other problems about the urbanism. We think that the necropolis must be dated between the fifth and seventh centuries A.D.

  7. Cementerios tardoantiguos de Valencia: arqueología y antropología

Ribera i Lacomba, Albert Vicent; Alapont Martín, Llorenç
Located in the urban center, the cemeteries of the Episcopal group of Valencia were originated in the beginning from two circumstances, on one hand, to a hierarchic process of burials, on the other, to the attraction of two martyrial sites : the tomb of Saint Vincent and the place where he was tortured until his death. Two necropolis of different categories arose around both. In any case, all people buried in this area belonged to the diverse status of the city high class. Most of the people would continue to be buried in the cemeteries out of the city. Paradoxically...

The study of the funerary statuary of Corduba-Colonia Patricia only could be undertaken until recently from a small number of sculptural and epigraphic testimonies, found isolated and without context. Nevertheless, this situation has begun to change after the discovery in 2004, during an archaeological excavation, of a female statue linked to her correspondent funerary monument. The analysis of this piece and of those other elements allows us to approach towards the phenomenon of the self-representation of the cordovans elites of Late Republic and Early Empire across their sepulchral statues.
