Arsenic intake via water and food by a population living in an arsenic-affected area of Bangladesh - Ohno, Koichi; Yanase, Tatsuya; Matsuo, Yuki; Kimura, Tetsuro; Rahman, M. Hamidur; Magara, Yasumoto; Matsui, Yoshihiko
More and more people in Bangladesh have recently become aware of the risk of drinking arsenic-contaminated groundwater, and have been trying to obtain drinking water from less arsenic-contaminated sources.

The effect of dissipation on quantum transmission resonance - Konno, Kohkichi; Nishida, Munehiro; Tanda, Satoshi; Hatakenaka, Noriyuki
Quantum transmissions of a free particle passing through a rectangular potential barrier with dissipation are studied using a path decomposition technique.

Helium gas permeability of SiC/SiC composite after heat cycles - Hino, T.; Hayashishita, E.; Kohyama, A.; Yamauchi, Y.; Hirohata, Y.
In a blanket made of SiC/SiC composite, helium gas employed as coolant may leak into plasma, resulting in fuel dilution.

Anomalous mode, elastic constants and phonon images in CaWO4 - Hayasaka, K.; Higashi, R.; Suda, J.; Tanaka, Y.; Tamura, S.; Giltrow, M.; Wigmored, J. K.
Stimulated by the “anomalous mode” observed in the time-of-flight measurement of phonon signals [J.K.

Structure of the carbon nanofilaments formed by liquid phase carbonization in porous anodic alumina template - Habazaki, H.; Kiriu, M.; Hayashi, M.; Konno, H.
Platelet structure carbon nanofilaments of ?30 nm in diameter have been prepared by heating a mixture of porous anodic alumina template and poly(vinyl)chloride (PVC) powders in an argon atmosphere, and the change in their structure and morphology with heat treatment temperature, ranging from 600 to 2800 °C, has been examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nitrogen gas adsorption measurements.

Carrier-microencapsulation for preventing pyrite oxidation - Satur, Jacqueline; Hiroyoshi, Naoki; Tsunekawa, Masami; Ito, Mayumi; Okamoto, Hideyuki
The oxidation of pyrite causes the formation of acid mine drainage polluted by heavy metals.

Pretreatment of automobile shredder residue (ASR) for fuel utilization - Hwang, I.H.; Yokono, S.; Matsuto, T.
Composition analysis revealed that ASR components could be classified into four groups: (1) urethane and textile?light fraction and combustibles containing low levels of ash and Cl; (2) plastics and rubber?light or heavy fraction and combustibles containing high levels of Cl; (3) metals and electrical wire?heavy fraction and incombustibles, and (4) particles smaller under 5.6 mm with high ash contents.
