    Solution processing of Al-doped ZnO (AZO) is interesting from an economical point of view for reducing synthesis and deposition costs in comparison to that for vacuum methods. Several (aqueous) chemical solution deposition routes have been explored for AZO, but the question that has never been answered is how state-of-the-art conductivity is achieved.   2. Preparation and characterization of three dimensionally ordered macroporous Li5La3Ta2O12 by colloidal crystal templating for all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries

    Three dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) membranes of Li5La3Ta2O12 (LLTO) for all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries were prepared by using colloidal crystal templating of mono dispersed polystyrene (PS) spheres combined with sol???gel synthesis of LLTO precursor. During the sol???gel synthesis, the appropriate mixtures of CH3COOLi, La(NO3)3??6H2O and Ta(OC2H5)5 were dissolved in two different solvents to prepare garnet-type LLTO.     Novel synthetic methods in solution that reduce the formation temperature of bismuth-based electronic oxides are essential for their successful integration with substrates of low thermal stability within micro- and flexible-electronic devices. This has become crucial for these oxides, since they appear as promising low-toxic functional materials alternative to other electronic oxides containing heavy metals. However, this is a challenge, since the crystallization of bismuth oxides occurs at high temperatures.   7. Substitutional phosphorus incorporation in nanocrystalline CVD diamond thin films

    Nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) thin films were produced by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and doped by the addition of phosphine to the gas mixture. The characterization of the films focused on probing the incorporation and distribution of the phosphorus (P) dopants. Electron microscopy evaluated the overall film morphology and revealed the interior structure of the nanosized grains. The homogeneous films with distinct diamond grains featured a notably low sp(2):sp(3)-ratio as confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. High resolution spectroscopy methods demonstrated a homogeneous P-incorporation, both in-depth and in-plane. The P concentration in the films was determined to be in the order of 10(19)...

  11. Luminescence properties of Sm3+-doped alkaline earth ortho-stannates

    A series of Sm3+ doped M2SnO4 (M = Ca, Sr and Ba) samples were prepared by a conventional high temperature solid-state reaction route. All samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, photoluminescence (PL), photoluminescence thermal quenching (TQ) and fluorescence lifetime (FL) measurements. The morphology of synthesized phosphor powders was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).   12. Transparent conducting oxide films of group V doped titania prepared by aqueous chemical solution deposition

    Transparent conducting oxide (TCO) films of titania doped with vanadium (V), niobium (Nb) and tantalum(Ta) are obtained by aqueous Chemical Solution Deposition (CSD). The effect of the dopant on the crystallization and microstructure of the resulting films is examined by means of X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. During annealing of the thin films, in-situ characterization of the crystal structure and sheet resistance is carried out. Niobium doped anatase films, obtained after annealing in forming gas, show a resistivity of 0,28 Ohm cm, which is the lowest resistivity reported for a solution deposited anatase-based TCO so far.   13. Pyrolysis characteristics of excavated waste material processed into refuse derived fuel

    The pyrolysis characteristics of refuse derived fuel (RDF) processed from excavated landfill waste are investigated by thermogravimetric analysis combined with a MATLAB optimization study to determine chemical kinetic parameters. Waste samples ??? a mix of municipal and industrial waste ??? with particle sizes between 150 and 250 lm are heated to 800 C at a heating rate of 10 C min 1. The independent parallel first-order reactions model is used for the kinetic analysis. Four parallel reactions describe the thermal degradation behavior of the waste material.     Polycrystalline aluminum nitride (AlN) thin films are exposed to hydrogen and hydrogen/methane plasmas at different conditions. The latter plays an indispensable role in the subsequent deposition of nanocrystalline diamond thin films on AlN. The changes of AlN properties are investigated by means of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies as well as atomic force microscopy. The E1(TO) and E22 phonon mode frequencies blue-shift after the exposure to plasmas. The damping constant of E1(TO) phonon, calculated from FTIR transmission spectra using the factorized model of a damped oscillator, and the width of E22 peak in Raman spectra decrease with increasing...
