Experiments on the effects of tillage and rotation on crop yields were started in 1962 near Wooster, Ohio, USA and in 1963 near Hoytville, Ohio, USA by Drs. David M. Van Doren and Glover B. Triplett. These sites present the longest continually maintained no-tillage research plots to date. The original research objective was to determine the amount of tillage needed to maintain satisfactory yields of corn (Zea mays L.) and to determine the interaction of crop rotation, tillage and soil type with respect to corn yields.
