  1. Smart meters in smart manufacturing

Martín Rubio, Irene; Florence Sandoval, Antonio; Gonzalez Sanchez, Elena; Andina de la Fuente, Diego
The extent of change in business process and smart manufacturing usage should be taken into account in every energy efficiency project in industries. A significant part of smart metering success depends upon making the business processes more systematic. Smart manufacturing in the dramatically intensified and pervasive application of networked information-based technologies through the manufacturing and supply chain enterprise. There is no doubt that the deployment os smart meters involves complex and different business models, the management of significant risks, and the need for research and developtment of new technologies, business models and organization engineering. Industrial energy audits play an important...

  3. Fréchet distribution applied to salary incomes in Spain from 1999 to 2014. An engineering approach to changes in salaries distribution

Pindado Carrion, Santiago; Pindado Carrion, Carlos; Cubas Cano, Javier
The official data in relation to salaries paid in Spain from 1999 to 2014 has been analyzed. The inadequate data format does not reflect the whole salary distribution. Fréchet distributions have been fitted to the data. This simple distribution has similar accuracy in relation to the data when compared to other distributions (Log-Normal, Gamma, Dagum, GB2). Analysis of the data through the fitted Fréchet distributions reveals a tendency towards more balanced (i.e., less skewed) salary distributions from 2002 to 2014 in Spain

  4. Crisis and the city: neoliberalism, austerity planning and the production of space

    Sevilla Buitrago, Álvaro
The current crisis, with its particularly severe configuration in Southern European countries, provides an opportunity to probe the interrelation of economic crunches and the praduction of space, and also to imagine potential paths of sociospatial emancipation from the dictates of global markets. This introductory chapter offers a preliminary interpretive framework exploring the fundamental role of urban and territorial restructuring in the formation, management and resolution of capitalist crises and, conversely, periods of crisis as key stages in the history of urbanization. I will begin by contextualizing the 2007-8 economic slump, the subsequent global recession and its uneven impact on states...

  5. Perception of climate change and farm level adaptation choices in central Kenya

Asayehegn Gebreeyesus, Kinfe; Temple, Ludovic; Sánchez, Berta; Iglesias, Ana
This article addresses: The need for adaptation which is highly justified at political level have to be considered at local level also ? Studies concerning adaptation choices at local levels particularly in the coffee agroforestry systems of east Africa are insufficient ? Local people are affected by the changes in climate and the economic pressure; their perception and adaptation depends on the effects from the climate and the economic pressure as well ? Coffee and food crops farmers perceive and respond to climate change differently ? Farmers who implemented multiple adaptation strategies have higher payoff/return compare to farmers who implement...

  6. Capitalist Formations of Enclosure: Space and the Extinction of the Commons

    Sevilla Buitrago, Álvaro
Despite their theoretical and political potential, recent debates on enclosure usually lack an effective consideration of how space is mobilized in the process of dispossession. This article connects the analysis of enclosure's general spatial rationality to a range of illustrations of its particular formations and procedures. Enclosure is understood as one of capitalism's “universal territorial equivalents”, a polymorphous technique with variegated expressions in time but also with a consistent logic that uses the spatial erosion of the commons to subsume non-commodified, self-managed social spaces. In response to the ever-changing nature of commoning, successive regimes of enclosure reshape the morphologies of...

  9. How Fashion Brands Talk to Their Customers on Social Media

    Hernández García, Ángel
Fashion brands are among the earliest adopters of social media networks. Fashion companies manage social media applications and integrate them into their global marketing strategies in an attempt to shift from transactional to relationship-based approaches. Nevertheless, decisions on social media marketing efforts often rely on intuition and trial and error rather than strategic thinking, which can potentially lead to a disconnection between the brands and their audience. This talk explores the language used by fashion brands in social media and the perception of consumers about brands’ marketing messages, using examples from Europe and Indonesia to help understand and improve the...

  10. The long journey of social media marketing in the fashion industry. From companies' strategies to consumer responses

    Hernández García, Ángel
This work-in-progress research project aims to cover different aspects of social media marketing in the fashion industry, starting with the creation of a framework for social media marketing strategies deployed by fashion companies. The research defines specific social media strategic actions, in terms of contents posted in different social media platforms, and analyzes their effect on consumers' perceptions and responses. The research features qualitative and quantitative data collected from Italian and Spanish companies, as well as from Indonesian consumers.

  13. Economic feasibility analysis of choices for not connected clients: photovoltaic off-grid systems, compared to grid based system

Muñoz Garcia, Miguel Angel; Wang, Huaxin; Moreda Cantero, Guillermo P.; Collar Arranz, Inés
Off-grid photovoltaic systems are less constrained by national regulations than their grid-connected counterparts. Off-grid systems do not depend on feed-in tariff and the analysis of their cost-efficiency is more stable along time. This work calculates the economic parameters for two different technologies of photovoltaic systems and compares the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), with the price of the electricity, including the cost for the connection of the system related to the distance to the grid. The results show that the sustained decline in photovoltaic module¿s price contributes to subsequent decline in LCOE, whereas the increase in the price of grid...

  15. An analysis of productive efficiency and innovation activity using DEA: An application to Spain's wood-based industry

Díaz Balteiro, Luis Augusto; Herruzo Martinez, Antonio Casimiro; Martinez-Nuñez, Margarita; González Pachón, Jacinto
This paper intends to analyze the relationship between productive efficiency and innovation activity in Spain’s wood-based industry. The methodology includes two levels of analysis. First, a non-parametric technique (data envelopment analysis, DEA)is applied with several inputs and outputs associated to economic and financial data. In a second stage, a logistic regression model explores the relationship between the property of efficiency and innovation activity indicators. This approach is used to analyze a set of firms in the following sectors: lumber and wood products, pulp and paper and wood furniture. Results do not show the existence of significant links between firm’s efficiency and...

  17. Analysis of air mass dependence of three photovoltaic arrays

Wang, Huaxin; Muñoz Garcia, Miguel Angel; Moreda Cantero, Guillermo P.; Alonso Garcia, M. Carmen
The solar spectrum, which is also could be described by air mass factor, has a significant relationship with the performance of photovoltaic modules. The air mass dependence has been investigated by a theoretical method as well as an actual case of three different photovoltaic arrays: polycrystalline silicon, amorphous silicon and cadmium telluride, at the EUIT Agrícola-UPM (Madrid, Spain, 40.4426oN, 3.7295oW). The calculating results show that: AM dependence of poly-Si array is positive because an elevating AM-value indicates a red shift and poly-Si module is more red sensitive; On the contrary, as a-Si module and CdTe module are more blue sensitive,...
