    This report is an output from work-package 6 which contributes to the third objective. Work-package 6 focuses on the field- and farm-scale evaluation of innovation research that have arisen from about 40 agroforestry stakeholder groups created across Europe. Some research, for example tree protection options, are best determined by technical evaluations in the field. However some research questions require a modelling approach to predict, for example, the financial and economic impact of a new practice over a number of years.   6. Forage-SAFE: a tool to assess the management and economics of wood pasture systems

    Forage-SAFE is a spreadsheet model that has been developed within the AGFORWARD project to better understand the interactions between trees, the grass understorey and livestock on the profitability of wood pastures. It can be used to assess the daily balance between the demand for and the production of forage to estimate an annual farm net margin. It is possible to use the model to modify biophysical and financial parameters related to the tree, pasture and livestock components (such as tree cover density, carrying capacity and livestock species) in order to maximise net farm income

  9. Avaliação da eficiência das passagens para peixes através de detectores de infravermelhos. Riverwatcher: um caso de estudo

    A eficiência de uma passagem para peixes de bacias sucessivas instalada na mini-hídrica de Janeiro de Cima, no rio Zêzere, foi avaliada utilizando um dispositivo de leitura de infravermelhos, o Riverwatcher. Este aparelho funciona como um “bio-scanner ”, cuja função é a contagem do número de peixes que transpõem os leitores de infravermelhos do dispositivo, registando além de dados ambientais como a temperatura da água, variáveis como o comprimento e silhueta dos peixes. Foram efectuados três ensaios com a intenção de aferir este dispositivo de monitorização, relativamente à contagem e à forma das silhuetas.
