  1. Evaluation zwischen Leistungsmessung und Lernschleife

Martinuzzi, Robert-Andre; Meyer, Wolfgang; Kopp, Ursula

  2. R&D Spillovers: A Non-Spatial and a Spatial Examination

    Gumprecht, Daniela
In recent years there were many debates and different opinions whether R&D spillover effects exist or not. In 1995 Coe and Helpman published a study about this phenomenon, based on a panel dataset, that supports the position that such R&D spillover effects are existent. However, this survey was criticized and many different suggestions for improvement came from the scientific community. Some of them were selected and analysed and finally led to a new model. And even though this new model is well compatible with the data, it leads to different conclusions, namely that there does not exist an R&D spillover effect. These different results were the motivation to run...

  3. Spatial Filtering with EViews and MATLAB

    Ferstl, Robert
This article summarizes the ideas behind a few programs we developed for spatial data analysis in EViews and MATLAB. They allow the user to check for spatial autocorrelation using Moran's I and provide a spatial filtering procedure based on the Gi statistic by Getis and Ord (1992). We have also implemented graphical tools like Moran Scatterplots for the detection of outliers or local spatial clusters.

  4. Charakteristika eines finanz-dominierten Akkumulationsregimes in Europa

    Stockhammer, Engelbert
(author's abstract)

  5. Total factor productivity effects of interregional knowledge spillovers in manufacturing industries across Europe

Scherngell, Thomas; Fischer, Manfred M.; Reismann, Martin
The objective of this study is to identify knowledge spillovers that spread across regions in Europe and vary in magnitude for different industries. The study uses a panel of 203 NUTS-2 regions covering the 15 pre-2004 EU-member-states to estimate the impact over the period 1998-2003, and distinguish between five major industries. The study implements a fixed effects panel data regression model with spatial autocorrelation to estimate effects using patent applications as a measure of R&D output to capture the contribution of R&D (direct and spilled-over) to regional productivity at the industry level. The results suggest that interregional knowledge spillovers and their productivity effects are to a substantial degree...

  10. Lead users and the adoption and diffusion of new products: Insights from two extreme sports communities

Schreier, Martin; Oberhauser, Stefan; Prügl, Reinhard Wilhelm
Lead users are proposed as a valuable resource for marketers in terms of the (1) development, (2) adoption, and (3) diffusion of new products. We present the first consumer study to provide evidence that the latter two suggestions are justified. First, we find that lead users demonstrate stronger domain-specific innovativeness than more "ordinary" users. Second, lead users perceive new technologies as less "complex" and might therefore be better prepared to adopt them. Third, we find that lead users demonstrate stronger opinion leadership and weaker opinion seeking tendencies. Finally, we discuss the implications of our findings for the marketing of new products. 11. What a Difference a DV Makes ... The Impact of Conceptualizing the Dependent Variable in Innovation Success Factor Studies

Dömötor, Rudolf; Franke, Nikolaus; Hienerth, Christoph
The quest for the "success factors" that drive a company's innovation performance has attracted a great deal of attention among both practitioners and academics. The underlying assumption is that certain critical activities impact the innovation performance of the company or the project. However, the findings of success factor studies lack convergence. It has been speculated that this may be due to the fact that extant studies have used many different measures of the dependent variable "innovation performance". Our study is the first to analyze this issue systematically and empirically: we analyze the extent to which different conceptualizations of the dependent variable (a firm's innovation performance) lead to different...

  12. Warenflusskontrolle in der Fairtrade Kaffee Supply Chain

    Rachbauer, Thomas

Implementing Build to Order (BTO) strategies instead of usual Build to Stock have the potential of sorting out some individual problems of the automotive industry (e.g. high stock of finished goods). BTO reconnects the customer to the Supply Chain by focusing on him/her and making him/her to the starting point of the production process. Consequently some objectives like stock reduction as well as an increase of market shares and profits are linked with BTO. However, some requirements and preconditions have to be fulfilled to realize BTO strategies. First of all flexibility across processes, products and volume have to be assured....

  16. Development of Distribution Logistics for Fast Moving Consumer Goods in Poland

    Hausmaninger, Martin
This work analyzes the current situation of distribution logistics in Poland and tries to anticipate future developments in this area. It demonstrates, how the current economic growth and EU membership of Poland since 2004 influences these developments. The focus is on availability of infrastructure, cost of operations, the European distribution structure and distribution channel structures. The research shows that conditions for distribution operations in Poland are on the one hand good, because operation costs are low and warehouse space is cheap and sufficient in supply. On the other hand, the slow development of the road infrastructure and other issues cause...

  17. Viability of the Premium Airline Business Model - Analysis of business class-only services offered by Eos Airlines, MAXjet Airways and Lufthansa, Swiss, KLM in cooperation with PrivatAir Herausgeber: die

    Kuchta, Marek
Between 2002 and 2005, Lufthansa, Swiss and KLM in cooperation with PrivatAir, start-up airlines Eos and MAXjet individually, launched scheduled business class-only services between Europe and the US. This paper qualitatively analyses the new business model from the strategic and operational point of view. Different approaches based on pull or push motivation have been identified and the characteristics of the service offerings extensively examined. From the strategic aspect, the analysis has proven that the products have an inherent value benefit for the respective target group. It has been established that short and ultra-long haul routes are not viable for the...

  18. Wettbewerb im Luftverkehr - Deregulierung und strategische Allianzen

    Strobach, Daniel
Deregulation has influenced how network carriers operate. But despite extensive deregulation, as being adopted by the European Union, a certain level of regulation has remained in international traffic. The industry reacted to this situation by forming global strategic alliances. These alliances can not be assessed as anti-competitive in advance. Typical elements and their effects have to be analyzed in detail. For example code-sharing causes increasing and decreasing prices, depending on the market in focus. The actual negotiations on common rules for air traffic between the European Union and the United States of America could make way for a consolidation within...

  20. Assessing the effects of quality regulation in Norway with a quality regulated version of dynamic DEA

    Geymüller, Philipp von; Burger, Anton
In order to find out why energy-not-supplied in Norway - the most important indicator for the quality of service in the quality-regulation regime there - decreased more pronounced before the introduction of quality-regulation in 2001 than after it, we develop a dynamic quality-DEA-model and apply it to a representative sample of distribution-net operators. Our model enables us to calculate a counter-factual and thus to tentatively answer the question: What would have happened, had there been no quality-regulation? This way we find strong evidence that the quality-regulation in Norway did not have an effect on the behavior of the firms. (author's...
