  1. Key drivers of airline loyalty

Dolnicar, Sara; Grabler, Klaus; Grün, Bettina; Kulnig, Anna
This study investigates drivers of airline loyalty. It contributes to the body of knowledge in the area by investigating loyalty for a number of a priori market segments identified by airline management and by using a method which accounts for the multi-step nature of the airline choice process. The study is based on responses from 687 passengers. Results indicate that, at aggregate level, frequent flyer membership, price, the status of being a national carrier and the reputation of the airline as perceived by friends are the variables which best discriminate between travellers loyal to the airline and those who are not. Differences in drivers of airline...

  2. Watch Your Spelling!

    Hornik, Kurt; Murdoch, Duncan
We discuss the facilities in base R for spell checking via Aspell, Hunspell or Ispell, which are useful in particular for conveniently checking the spelling of natural language texts in package Rd files and vignettes. Spell checking performance is illustrated using the Rd files in package stats. This example clearly indicates the need for a domain-specific statistical dictionary. We analyze the results of spell checking all Rd files in all CRAN packages and show how these can be employed for building such a dictionary.

  3. Nachhaltigkeit und Projektmanagement: Für eine breitere Perspektive auf Projekte

Martinuzzi, Robert-Andre; Gareis, Roland; Huemann, Martina; Sedlacko, Michal; Ringhofer, Claudia

(author's abstract)

Process mining techniques are able to extract knowledge from event logs commonly available in today's information systems. These techniques provide new means to discover, monitor, and improve processes in a variety of application domains. There are two main drivers for the growing interest in process mining. On the one hand, more and more events are being recorded, thus, providing detailed information about the history of processes. On the other hand, there is a need to improve and support business processes in competitive and rapidly changing environments. This manifesto is created by the IEEE Task Force on Process Mining and aims...

  15. Decomposing Income Differentials Between Roma and Non-Roma in South East Europe

    Milcher, Susanne
The paper decomposes average income differentials between Roma and non-Roma in South East Europe into the component that can be explained by group differences in income-related characteristics (characteristics effect), and the component which is due to differing returns to these characteristics (coefficients or discrimination effect). The decomposition analysis is based on Blinder (1973) and Oaxaca (1973) and uses three weighting matrices, reflecting the different assumptions about income structures that would prevail in the absence of discrimination. Heckman (1979) estimators control for selectivity bias. Using microdata from the 2004 UNDP household survey on Roma minorities, the paper finds that a large share of the average income differential between Roma...

  16. The MNC as an Externally Embedded Organization: An Investigation of Embeddedness Overlap in Local Subsidiary Networks.

Nell, Phillip C.; Ambos, Björn; Schlegelmilch, Bodo B.
MNCs have been conceptualized as differentiated networks that, in turn, are embedded in external networks. Previous research has predominantly focused on the embeddedness of established subsidiaries into their local environment, omitting to shed light on the phenomenon of headquarters linkages to the local context which creates embeddedness overlap. We develop a model of why MNCs develop overlapping linkages to local subsidiary networks even if the subsidiaries have grown out of the initial start-up phase. Using detailed information on 168 European subsidiaries, we find that MNCs build and maintain more overlapping network ties when subsidiaries are high performers, hold important resources,...

  18. Die langfristige Entwicklung der Einkommenskonzentration in Österreich, 1957-2008. Teil 1: Literaturüberblick und Beschreibung der Daten

Altzinger, Wilfried; Berka, Christopher; Humer, Stefan; Moser, Mathias

  19. Breadth and Depth of Promotional Sales in Food Retailing

Glauben, Thomas; Hansen, Kristin; Loy, Jens-Peter; Weiss, Christoph
Temporary price reductions (sales) as a means of promotion have become an increasingly important tool in the marketing mix of food retailers around the world. This paper investigates the retailers' pricing strategy by explicitly accounting for the multi-product nature of retailing. We find that retailers systematically adjust the breadth and depth of sales over time and they respond aggressively to their rivals' promotional activities. Finally, the breadth and depth of sales are found to be substitutes in the set of the available strategies to increase the store traffic. (authors' abstract)

  20. topicmodels: An R Package for Fitting Topic Models

    Hornik, Kurt; Grün, Bettina
Topic models allow the probabilistic modeling of term frequency occurrences in documents. The fitted model can be used to estimate the similarity between documents as well as between a set of specified keywords using an additional layer of latent variables which are referred to as topics. The R package topicmodels provides basic infrastructure for fitting topic models based on data structures from the text mining package tm. The package includes interfaces to two algorithms for fitting topic models: the variational expectation-maximization algorithm provided by David M. Blei and co-authors and an algorithm using Gibbs sampling by Xuan-Hieu Phan and co-authors. (authors' abstract)
