[EN] This paper describes an experimence conducted in a ninth grade classroom. Three modeling
tasks have been designed both related with the organization of a school trip. The main
objective is to obtain the aspects to be considered when we propose this kind of tasks. For
this aim we will analyze the result of experience thought the student’s responses in order
to identify and classify the difficulties encountered them

[EN] Artificial neural networks are a robust alternative to conventional models for estimating different targets
in irrigation engineering, among others, reference evapotranspiration, a key variable for estimating crop
water requirements. This paper presents a didactic methodology for introducing students in the application
of artificial neural networks for reference evapotranspiration estimation using MatLab
from learning a specific application of this software within their field of future professional competencies,
students would get in touch with current research work in irrigation engineering, and eventual future
research collaborations might be promoted.

[EN] There exists a wide range of CAD systems devoted to model three-dimensional objects. Based on an
intuitive creation and transformation of basic geometrical objects, the mathematical foundation of such
systems is generally unknown to their users. The incorporation of this kind of software in Math classes is
a fundamental key to get the attention of students of those degrees for which CAD systems are not only
attractive, but also extremely important in the future professional career. The current paper deals with
the experience carried out in this regard during the last five years by students of the Building Engineering
Degree of the University of Seville....

[EN] In this study we present an experience carried out in an 11th grade class. We use a teaching
model designed to work the concepts of family of functions and parameter through the
modelling. This model has the characteristic that the data are obtained by students in
classroom using tablets and it includes elements that allow them to manage the modelling
process. The analysis of the results revealed that the realization of a previous qualitative
analysis of the phenomenon studied and the students’ knowledge about the families of functions
and the meaning of the parameters are key elements in the management and control
of the entire process....
[EN] Mechanical vibrations as subject can be found within many Engineering and Science Degrees.
To achieve that the students understand the mathematics and its physical interpretation
is the objective we should get as docents. In this paper we describe how to create a
simple graphical model of a single degree of freedom vibrating system allowing us to visualize
concepts like above concepts damping, resonance or forced vibrations. For that, we
use the popular symbolic software Wolfram Mathematica with which, without an excessive
programming complexity, we can obtain a very satisfactory visual model capable to move
itself, controlled by parameters. In addition, the model incorporates the curve-response,

[EN] The design, development and implementation of an expert system that allows the simulation of fuzzy logic
models was proposed as supervised practical work. This expert system was used in solving a real engineering
problem: the automatic regulation of the water inflow of semi-intensive aquaculture plants. The main
objective of this regulation is to control the water quality in the aquaculture ponds. The development of
this academic activity has been included in the subject programs ‘Fluid Mechanics’ and ‘Environmental
Impact’ of 3rd course of some Degrees of Engineering of Huelva University. Globally, we can say that
this teaching methodology, based on the study and solution of...

[EN] Biological systems or those formed by living entities (individuals) are complex systems, both for the “complexity”
that each individual or live agent possesses, as well as for possible relationships that can be
established between them, plus the possible relationships with the environment in which these individuals
develop, live, compete and die, and which is therefore modified as a result of their actions. This work is
based on the experience gained in recent years in the use of agent-based models in the field of biosystems
at the Universitat Polit`ecnica de Catalunya. The aim of this paper is to provide elements of study and
discussion to answer...

[EN] In this work we present how we can use the Singular Valued Decomposition of a matrix as
a main tool to develop a Linear algebra course in engineering. Some special techniques,
results and examples are introduced in this setting.
[EN] The aeroelastic modelling of aircraft structures is a fundamental area for the students of Aerospace Engineering Degree. This subject has a strongly multidisciplinary character and involves other several subjects like mechanics, vibrations, aerodynamics, structural analysis. Consequently, the students find stimulating the challenge of merging their knowledge at different areas. In this paper, a teaching experience on the solution of the aeroelastic problem of a 3D-wing through six different computer tasks is presented. The main objective is to attempt a relatively complex problem using a simple version of the Finite Element Method with only four degrees of freedom. The students...
