  1. Mining Resource Assignments and Teamwork Compositions from Process Logs

Schönig, Stefan; Cabanillas Macias, Cristina; Di Ciccio, Claudio; Jablonski, Stefan; Mendling, Jan
Process mining aims at discovering processes by extracting knowledge from event logs. Such knowledge may refer to different business process perspectives. The organisational perspective deals, among other things, with the assignment of human resources to process activities. Information about the resources that are involved in process activities can be mined from event logs in order to discover resource assignment conditions. This is valuable for process analysis and redesign. Prior process mining approaches in this context present one of the following issues: (i) they are limited to discovering a restricted set of resource assignment conditions; (ii) they are not fully efficient;...

  2. Goodness-of-Fit Assessment in Multidimensional Scaling and Unfolding

Mair, Patrick; Borg, Ingwer; Rusch, Thomas
Judging goodness of fit in multidimensional scaling requires a comprehensive set of diagnostic tools instead of relying on stress rules of thumb. This article elaborates on corresponding strategies and gives practical guidelines for researchers to obtain a clear picture of the goodness of fit of a solution. Special emphasis will be placed on the use of permutation tests. The second part of the article focuses on goodness-of-fit assessment of an important variant of multidimensional scaling called unfolding, which can be applied to a broad range of psychological data settings. Two real-life data sets are presented in order to walk the...

  3. Wealth Inequality and Power Imbalances: Shedding Some Heterodox Light on a Neglected Topic

    Rehm, Miriam; Schnetzer, Matthias
This paper argues that the cumulative causation processes between wealth and power risk leading to an escalation of wealth inequality. We confirm with new survey data for the Eurozone Piketty's conclusions that wealth is highly concentrated and that this inequality is perpetuated through dynastic wealth. This leads to an ever-concentrating ability to shape economic and political institutions. While neoclassical economics has a blind spot where power is concerned, we discuss how heterodox approaches have attempted to conceptualize this structural power which influences the framework of economic activity. Finally, we discuss three concrete channels through which the unequal distribution of private...

  5. Die volkswirtschaftliche Bedeutung gemeinnütziger Organisationen in Österreich

    Pennerstorfer, Astrid

  6. Carbon footprint decomposition in MRIO models: identifying EU supply-chain hot spots and their structural changes over time

    Wieland, Hanspeter; Giljum, Stefan
Politics' demand for informative consumption-based emission assessments based on multi-regional input output (MRIO) databases is steadily increasing. Based on the MRIO database EXIOBASE 3, we exemplify the utility of a range of analytical tools and discus their potential insights for consumption-based policies. The analysis decomposes the overall EU carbon footprint into product groups as well as into emitting regions. Subsequently, we illustrate the potential of applying production layer decomposition (PLD) and structural path analysis (SPA) for the assessment of global supply-chains related to the EU carbon footprint and their structural changes over time. We close with some policy ecommendations on reducing carbon footprint...
