  1. Viaje a través de la mente. La idea. Fundamentos del dibujo

    Granero Martín, Francisco
[EN] A thought that generates the idea as a matter of drawing. A zero degree drawing is a matter of initiation. At the initiation lays the spirit and the potentials that give birth to inspirations aiming to necessities. Kahn said: “it is a good thing that the mind goes back to the initiation because, for any constituted human activity, the initiation is the most marvellous moment”. Louis I. Kahn loved the initiations: “The initiations get me full of wonder. I believe that the initiation is a guarantee of prosecution. If this one does not occur, nothing could or would exist”.

  2. "Un ejemplo práctico"

    Bajo Mtz. de Murguía, Fernando
[EN] Our spatial environment perception can be depicted in several different ways. One of the most traditional one has been held through the representation of its image. But within our today ́s lansdcape, full of media interactions, it seems interesting to explore other new graphic representations. Better adapted to the virtual world we live in. And capable of reflecting an inhabited environment much more accurately, whose kaleidoscopic complexity demands simultaneous approaches. Their images will show a diversity that can be represented from abstract drawings, and despite their apparent disparity, they come from a proper coded process according to different alternatives.And...

[EN] The current research aims for two main targets: firstly, to reconstruct the surroundings of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, as well as the changes that it suffered within its establishment to the end of the 19th century. And secondly, to reveal the matches and contradictions in the documents about the territories depending on El Escorial. Our methodology is based upon the critical comparison between the written documents and the maps, drawings, and pictures located in the main Spanish and foreign archives. Due to the wide extent of the territories, and also to the lenght of the...

  5. Reseñas de libros de arquitectura

    Autores, Varios
Autores, V. (2013). Reseñas de libros de arquitectura. EGA. Revista de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica. 18(22):4-19. doi:10.4995/ega.2013.1831.

  6. Patrones formales en el proyecto paisajista

    Pérez Igualada, Javier
[EN] In this paper we propose a typology of patterns –or composition systems– for the morphological definition of horizontal surfaces in landscape design. Specifically, we state that the basic ways to define such horizontal surfaces in landscape design fit four possible composition systems or organizational patterns, which we will call Carpets, Paths, Mosaics and Strata. After identifying the characteristic and differential features of each of these patterns, which we will validate by contrasting them with exemplary works taken from historical and contemporary landscape architecture.

  7. MoGaMo. Un ejemplo multidisciplinar en los cincuenta

    García Alonso, Marta
[EN] Today, interdisciplinary collaboration has become fashionable, yet it is important to remember that architects have been using this practice for a long time. This article discovers an almost completely unknown movement led by one of the most charismatic Spanish architects of the 1950s, Ramón Vázquez Molezún. Using the pseudonym of MoGaMo, Molezún, together with the sculptor Amadeo Gabino and Molezún’s cousin, painter Manuel Suárez Molezún, created a series of exhibition installations in the early 1950s. Ultimately, this union of the arts (architecture, sculpture and painting) came to play a crucial role in the development of Modern Spanish architecture.

  9. Lo doméstico. Aprendiendo de Jørn Utzon

    Grijalba Bengoetxea, Alberto
[EN] Jørn Utzon designed, in five decades, four home-refuges for himself. Home-refuges designed by an architect for an architect. Home refuges in which he put his most intimate epiphanies and his most ultimate architectural work findings at his own disposal

Cabezas, Lino Manuel; Oliver, Joan Carles
[EN] This work is intended to analyze and eventually assess the meaning of some theories of proportion, often posed from false premises of objectivity and scientific certainty. We seek to make evident the symbolic character of an important part of these systems. In this framework we weigh the assessment of metaphorical or poetic aspects. To that end, clichés and abuses of the theories obsessed in the definition of mathematical formulas that too often try to roughly certify themselves in all kind of examples are questioned. From these keys some aspects of Le Corbusier’s Modulor are interpreted.

  11. Las sombras que Letarouilly no copió

    Martínez Mindeguia, Francisco
[EN] Paul-Marie Letarouilly copied the geometry of a drawing of Francesco Panini, but he omitted the shadows that had the drawing. He did it because he believed that the architect’s drawing did not need them, as Alberti, Durand and, afterwards also, Quatremère de Quincy affirmed. This article analyses this decision: why he did it and what he lost or won with that

[EN] Because digitization has imposed itself on every sphere of contemporary life, this work aims to reflect on its actual reach within the terrain of architectural drawing and design, especially in the academic world. It is argued that in our country’s architecture schools, drawing and design follow practices that are very established; the instrumental use of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) is admitted, but its more profound dimensions within the fields of ideation, design, communication, and construction have not been explored. Beginning with the most contemporary debate about concepts that have already been fully developed in the world of Anglo-Saxon research...

[EN] A number of peculiar thorus vaults were built in southern Spain during the 16th century. One of these vaults, over the chapel of the Virgin of the Alcázar in the church of San Patricio in Lorca, shows at first sight an irregular rib layout; this fact makes the thorus nature of the intrados surface uncertain. The authors have carried on a survey of this member using 3D laser scanning and multi-image photogrammetry. This has led to an unexpected conclusion. The vault is built in two sections, in order to fit a preexistent skew plan. The intrados of one of...

[EN] The Royal Academy of Spain in Rome stands on what once was the Franciscan Convent of San Pietro in Montorio. This article analyzes its origins and the architectural evolution of the building through pictures, etchings and the historical cartography of Rome. The comparison and study of these images allow the understanding of the complex evolution of this building from its origin until nowadays, and provides interesting information about the elements changed or lost in its architecture, as well as in the landscape of the Gianicolo hill

[EN] There are a number of architectural elements in the Turia riverbed which have been developed over the centuries: bridges, embankments, ornamental elements, etc...Their capital importance for the historical and artistic heritage of the city of Valencia along with the little attention they have received so far, raised the need to pursue their study and cataloging. This paper analyzes one of the most emblematic elements integrating the Turia riverbed from a morphological and geometrical perspective, that is, the Puente del Mar bridge. The backbone of the present research focuses on deepening the potential of graphical representation tools for recovery, preservation...

[EN] Louis I. Kahn’s ‘form drawing’ for the First Unitarian Church of Ro-chester is a simple diagram and yet it sums up everything involved in the starting point of architectural design. Accustomed as we are nowadays to more sophisticated images, it is worth taking a closer look at the value and aim of this type of diagram characterised by an enlightening balance of re-straint and intensity. Kahn’s form drawing is a synthesis of his think-ing that beckons us to take another look at the genesis of the design process

  18. El grado cero de la arquitectura

    Trachana, Angelique
[EN] The thesis of this article defends the physiological and anthropological foundations of architecture against the sociological and aesthetic ones based on conventional codes. The genesis of the architectural form gets legitimized as an extension of the body in motion that involves a generator, vague, approximate, emotional, dreamy [ ...] drawing. Facing a drawing pedagogy with the aim to project, the difference between the conceptual drawing and the representational drawing is argued by addressing sources and concepts such as ‘degree zero’, ‘matrix space’ and ‘diagram’, very often used with a high degree of ambiguity or vagueness and without any critical...

    Bernal López-Sanvicente, Amparo
[EN] In 2012, the Institute of Architects of Barcelona commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the inauguration of its headquarters. An ambitious project that emerged with the intention of displaying an avant-garde image of Catalan architecture, making it visible in the heart of the city. Xavier Busquets won the contest with an architectural plan of great simplicity and purity composed of simple volumes, designed in the International Style of architecture. Following publication of the award, Gio Ponti, a member of the jury panel, handed the architect a set of drawings and notes that developed a critique of the award-winning draft project....

    Marcos, Carlos L.
