  1. PARITY AND NUMBER OF REPEATED DOE-LITTER-SEPARATION TREATMENTS AFFECT DIFFERENTLY THE REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCES OF LACTATING DOES

    Bonanno, A.; Di Grigoli, A.; Alabiso, M.; Boiti, C.
[EN] Using data from three different experiments, the effects of oestrus synchronisation by doe-litter separation (DLS), applied 48 hours befare artificial insemination from day 9 to day 11 post partum, on productive performance of free nursing rabbit does and their litters in relation to parity and number of successive DLS treatments were evaluated. lnitially, 200 New Zealand White does of different parity were homogeneously and definitively distributed in two groups (DLS and Control). On the whole, DLS improved fertility (+23.9%, Ps0.001 ), but reduced the growth of young rabbits from day 9 to weaning (-1.7 g/d, Ps0.01) and their weaning weight (-38 g, Ps0.01) at day 35. DLS also increased...

  3. GENETIC RESPONSE TO SELECTION FOR REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE IN A MATERNAL LINE OF RABBITS""

    García, M.L.; Baselga, M.
[EN] An evaluation of genetic response on reproductive traits was carried out in a line of rabbits selected for litter size at weaning. The evaluation was performed comparing contemporary does of generation 17 and 26, using cryopreservation techniques. The direct response to selection between both generations was O. 77±0.27 rabbits weaned/litter and there were favorable correlated responses in total litter size at birth and born alive. There was a non-significan! response in prenatal traits, but the litter size results imply response probably in foetal survival. The genetic trends were also estimated using mixed model methodology and were higher than the previous ones. Therefore, the repeatability animal model and the genetic...

  5. FREQUENCY AND TIME OF NURSING IN WILD AND DOMESTIC RABBITS HOUSED OUTDOORS IN FREE RANGE

    Hoy, ST.; Selzer, D.
[EN] lnvestigations were carried out during 104, 24-hours intervals in wild rabbits and 257, 24-hours intervals in domestic rabbits kept in two enclosures measuring 150 m2 ea ch. Both wild and domestic rabbit does nurse their pups more than once a day (wild rabbits: 1.28 per 24 h; domestic rabbits: 1.12 per 24 h) with the highest frequency in the 2nd week of lactation (wild rabbits: 1.48 per 24 h; domestic rabbits: 1.27 per 24 h). During the night, 84% and 86% (wild, domestic rabbits, respectively) of ali nursing took place. Light-dark change influences the time of nursing in both wild and domestic rabbits. The highest frequency of...

  6. EFFECT OF DONOR STRAIN AND MATURATION STAGE OF RABBIT OOCYTES ON RESULTS OF PENETRATION TEST OF RABBIT SEMEN

    Mocé, E.; Vicente, J.S.; Lavara, R.
[EN] The objective of this work was to develop a homologous in vitre penetration test to evaluate !he behaviour of rabbit sperm. Three treatments were applied to sperm (fresh, treated with heparin and frozen with a DMSO-sucrose extender), and two types of oocytes (immature or in vitre matured) belonging to tour different rabbit lines were used. The test was performed in TCM-199, under the following conditions: 37°C, 5% C02 and saturated humidi!y for 6 hours. After incubation, oocytes were denuded and they were observad under rnicroscope to record the nurnber of sperrnatozoa/oocyte. Results obtained showed significan! differences between ali !he treatments of sperm in the percentage of oocytes with adhered sperrnatozoa...

  8. EFFECT OF COLLECTION FREQUENCY ON RABBIT SEMEN PRODUCTION

    Nizza, A.; Di Meo, C.; Taranto, S.; Stanco, G.
[EN] The effect of collection frequency on the volume, concentration, motility and live sperm of rabbit semen was studied. Ten crossbreed Hyla bucks were used in two groups (five per group} during 17 weeks. In the extensive rhythm, two ejaculates per male were collected 10-15 minutes apart on one day each week. In the semi-intensive group two ejaculates per day were collected on two consecutive days each week, The proportion of useful ejaculates obtained decreased as collection frequency increased (O. 75 and 0.58 for the extensive and semi-intensive rhythms, respectively). Among the ejaculate characteristics studied - volume/ejaculate, sperm concentration, motility, live sperm - only volume/ejaculate showed significant differences between rhythms (0.68±0.06...
