  1. PERIRENAL FAT, CARCASS CONFORMATION, GAIN AND FEED EFFICIENCY OF GROWING RABBITS AS AFFECTED BY DIETARY PROTEIN AND ENERGY CONTENT

    Kjaer, J.B.; Jensen, J.A.
[EN] In three experiments, a total of 617 rabbits from weaning at 37 days until a live weight of approx. 2.5 kg at an avg. of 85 days were fed one of six different compound feeds with increasing protein/energy ratios (P/E). Experiment 1: 1. 79 and 1.96 % crude protein/MJDE per kg DM, experiment 2: 1.79, 2.28 and 2.46, and experiment 3: 1.79, 1.83 and 2.59. The rabbits were slaughtered atan average of 2.9 kg live weight at 99 days of age. An increase in P/E resulted in a significant decrease in the amount of perirenal fat, in experiment 2 from 49.4 g to 38. 7 g and...

  4. PERFORMANCE OF BROILER RABBIT (Soviet Chinchilla x Grey Giant) FED LOW GRAIN CONCENTRATE

    Singh, P.; Pathak, N.N.; Biswas, J.C.
[EN] Twenty one broiler rabbits, weaned at 5 weeks of age were divided into 3 groups of 7 each on the basis of body weight in a randomized block design and fed isonitrogenous concentrate mixture(s) containing either 60, 40 ar 20% crushed maize grain in group 1, 2 and 3 respectively, alongwith ad libitum kikuyu (Pennisetum clandistinum) green grass. In group 2 and 3 replacement of crushed maize was largely done with wheat bran which is available abundantly at lower cost in India. The experiment was continuad far 8 weeks ; DM intake and · body weight gain were recordad at daily and weekly interval respectively. Body weight gain...

  7. INFLUENCE OF THE DIET USED BEFORE AND AFTER THE FIRST MATING ON REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF RABBITS DOES

    Nizza, A.; Di Meo, C.; Esposito, L.
[EN] The aim of this study was to verify the influence of different diets used before and after the first mating on reproductive performance of does. 100 New Zealand White fema les growing rabbits (50 days old) were fed two different diets with concentrate pellets: in !he first diet (fibrous die! - F) crude fibre contents (CF) were 22.8% DM; in the second die! (normal die! - T) CF were 18.0% DM. From day 1 O of !he first pregnancy, 50 does (25 does for !he F group and 25 does for T group) received a traditional lactating concentrate (L) with Crude Protein (CP) 18.3% DM and Digestible Energy...

  13. ENERGY, PROTEIN AND FIBRE DIGESTIBILITY OF SOYA BEAN HULLS FOR RABBITS

    Garcia, J.; Villamide, M.J.; Blas, J.C. de
[EN] Twenty New Zealand White x Califomian growing rabbits between 46 and 51 d of age were used to determine energy, protein and fibre digestibilities of soya bean hulls. The nutritive value was determined by the substitution method using a basal ~iet formulated for a high energy and protein content (11.4 MJ DE kg· and 19. 7% CP, respectively) to balance the low nutritive value of the soya bean hulls. This feedstuff was substituted at a 24% in the basal diet. Energy, protein and NDF digestibilities (%) of soya bean hulls calculated by difference were 34.5(±3.28), 30.0(±4.28) and 30.6(±4}0), respectively, and digestible energy value was 6.17(±0.60) MJ kg·...

  16. EFFECT OF TRANSPORTATION AND STUNNING METHOD ON SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF RABBIT CARCASSES AND MEAT

    Dal Bosco, A.; Castellini, C.; Bernardini, M.
[EN] The influence of distance of transportation and stunning method on rabbit carcass and meat quality was verified using 100 hybrid Provisal rabbits, who carne from two intensive farms, 400 and 15 km from the commercial slaughtering house. Rabbits from each farm were divided into five groups and subjected to electric stunning by alternating curren! with relative combinations of voltage (45 vs 80 volts) and amperage (2.5 vs 8 amperes), or by cervical dislocation (control). The distance of transportation affected the carcass quality, mainly jusi after slaughtering: longissimus lumborum (1.1.) and bíceps femoris (b.f.) muscles had higher initial pH values (6.85 vs 6.41, 1.1; 7.04 vs 6.63, b.f.), andan unpleasant...

  19. BUCK PERFORMANCE IN A SMALL RABBITRY IN TRINIDAD

    RASTOGI, R.K.
[EN] Performance data. was collected on 48 bucks at a small experimental rabbitry during a ten year period 1983-93. The traits studied were fertility, litter size, age at first and last mating, and the duration of service life. Average fertility was 82.6%. Averages for number of kits born total and alive were 5.27 and 5.03, respectively. Means of age at first and last mating, and service life were 8.2, 19.4 and 11.5 mo, respectively. The coefficients of variation for these traits were also given. There was limitad scope for improving the fertility of bucks and the litter size of their mates.
