  1. RISQUES ASSOCIES A L'UTILISATION DES ANTIBIOTIQUES CHEZ LE LAPIN : UNE MINI REVUE

    Licois, D.
[EN] Digestive troubles are the main cause of morbidity and mortality during growth in rabbit production. The diagnosis of enteritis, which is characterized by diarrhoea, remains difficult to establish. However, identification of sorne specific pathogens may be possible. Coccidia and bacteria, like Escherichia coli (mainly 0103 serogroup) or Clostridium spiroforme are the most frequent pathogens. In adults, respiratory pathology with Pasteurella multocida is predominant, as well as staphylococcal infections.. In these conditions, the rabbit is one of the most important consumers of antibiotics among the domestic animals. The noxious role, particularly of penicillins and of sorne macrolids (clindamycin and lincomycin) is underlined. Otherwise, if sorne antibiotics like tetracyclin can be successfully used...

  3. PRODUCTION OF ANTI-PMSG ANTIBODIES AND ITS RELATION TO THE PRODUCTIVITY OF RABBIT DOES

    Lebas, F.; Theau-Clement, M.; Remy, B.; Drion, P.; Beckers, J.F.
[EN] A batch of 100 female rabbits of the Hyplus breed were subjected to artificial insemination (A.I.) for a period of 9 months. With the goal of inducing the sexual receptivity of the does, half of them received systematic doses of 25 1.U .. of PMSG (Ciclogonine PROCHENA), 48 hours before A.I.. The other half were not injected (Control group). Following this experimental period (40 days after the last injection), blood samples of all the does were taken, in order to assay the anti-PMSG antibodies and to study the relationship between the production of antibodies, and the receptivity and productivity of the does observad for the previous litter. For the PMSG...

  5. POTENTIALITES DE PRODUCTION ET DE CONSOMMATION DE LA VIANDE CUNICOLE AU LIBAN

    Chalah, T.; Hajj, E.
[EN] In order to know the situation of rabbit production and consumption in Lebanon, a survey was conducted concerning ali the producers (23), 137 traders, 48 restaurants and 5500 consumers covering all the regions and essentially the Lebanese religions. Results has revealed a traditional rearing methods with 17 tons of live weight of production per year. Only 14.5% of supermarkets and 4% of restaurants are selling rabbit. However, 85% of the supermarkets and 74% of the restaurants which do not sell the rabbit are for introducing this kind of meat in their sales point in case an advertising campaign is realised- Moreover, the rabbit eater percentage (32.41%) are divided into...

  8. INFLUENCE OF FEEDING PROBIOTICS ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND NUTRIENT DIGESTIBILITY IN RABBITS.

    Kamra, D.N.; Chaudhary, L.C.; Singh, R.; Pathak, N.N.
[EN] During a 84 days trial, growth performance and nutrient utilisation were studied on 33 New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits (initial age 42 ± 3 days and average body weight 633 ± 21g), divided into three groups of 11 animals each. All the rabbits were given a common pelleted ration. Animals of group 2 were provided a supplemental daily dose of lactic acid producing bacteria (Lacto) 5x1 oª cells/animal and ¡roup 3 received a mixed with equal quantity dose 5x1 O cells/animal/day of lactic acid bacteria and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Lacto+ Sacc). There were no differences in feed intake, body weight gain (average 8.1g/day), feed conversion efficiency (average 4. 71 g...

  9. HARMONIZATION OF CRITERIA AND TERMINOLOGY IN RABBIT MEAT RESEARCH. REVISED PROPOSAL

    Blasco, A.; Ouhayoun, J.
[EN] The harmonization of rabbit carcass criteria is a result of an international work. lts task was to specify the main traits to be considerad from the birth of the animal to the carcass analysis, to define these traits with enough accuracy and to propase a common terminology. The work concerns: 1- growth, consumption and breeding measurements, preslaughter handling and slaughter processing, 2- dressing out percentage analysis, 3- measurements or prediction of chillad and reference carcass composition. The proposal described in this work updates the former proposal published in 1993, and has the status of official document of the WRSA.

  10. GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF BROILER RABBITS MAINTAINED ON DIETS WITH VARYING LEVELS OF ENERGY AND PROTEIN

    Prasad, R.; Karim, S.A.; Patnayak, B.C.
[EN] The growth study was conducted with nine groups of six weaner kits each maintained on three levels of energy (2585, 2778, 3043 kcal DE/kg) and protein (16.07, 19.69, 22.70 %) in nine combinations. Weaning weight o kits was similar at the initiation of the experiment and in ad libitum feeding regimen, irrespective of energy and protein variation the kits were able to achieve 2 kg finishing weight at 12 weeks of age, with total gain of 1.5 to 1.8 kg and average daily gain of 27 to 32 g. Total feed consumad during the experiment and DMI (g/d) was higher (P<0.01) in low energy (6.83 kg, 114.9 g/d) followed...

  11. GENETIC AND NON-GENETIC FACTORS AFFECTING MILK YIELD OF RABBIT DOES UNDER HOT SEMI-ARID CLIMATE.

    Singh, G.
[EN] Forty five lactation records from 37 does of three breeds (White Giant: 16; Grey Giant: 12 and Soviet Chinchilla : 9) were analysed to study the effects of breed, parity, week of lactation and doe weight at kindling on milk production. ANOVA results showed that breed of the doe was important (P<0.07) for average weekly (600g) milk yield of the doe only and not for lactation (3600 g) yield, although White Giant does had numerically higher (625g per week and 3758g per lactation) production than did the does of other breeds. Effects of week of lactation, parity order and covariate of doe weight at kindling were significant in accounting for...

  12. EFFECT OF FEEDING EXTRUDED HATCHERY WASTE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SOVIET CHINCHILLA RABBITS.

    Handa, M.C.; Sapra, K.L.; Shingari, B.K.
[EN] Seventy five, Soviet Chinchilla 6 week-old rabbits just weaned were divided into 5 treatments, H1 , H2, H3, H4 and H5. Each group was further divided into 5 replications of 3 rabbits raised in the same cages and fed with extruded hatchery waste mixed with soja meal (40:60) at O, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 or 6% level replacing fish meal from rabbits diet at O, 25, 50, 75 or 100% level. The body wt. gains were 978, 998, 1030, 899 and 908 g in H1, H2, H3, H4 and H5 treatments, respectively indicating no statistical difference. The FCH and PEH values were 3 .79, 3.64, 3.53, 3.71 and 3.46...

  13. EFFECT OF A SYSTEMATIC PMSG TREATMENT 48 HOURS BEFORE ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION ON THE PRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF RABBIT DOES

    Theau-Clement, M.; Lebas, F.
[EN] A total of 148 multiparous rabbit does were distributed into two equal groups. Two days before insemination, the animals of the treated group received 25 IU of PMSG (Ciclogonine PROCHENA). The animals of the control group received no injection. At the end of the 9-month experiment, the does went on breeding according to the same protocol (artificial insemination (Al] 10-11 days after each kindling), except injections of PMSG, in order to study the possible remanent effects of the treatment. This postexperimental stage !asted for 7 months. During the experiment, PMSG improved the percentage of receptiva does (72.0 vs 38.4 %, P = 0.001) and its efficiency was not reduced with time;...
