  1. SPERM ABNORMALITIES AS POSSIBLE INDICATORS OF RABBIT CHRONIC HEAT STRESS

    Finzi, A.; Morera, P.; Kuzminsky, G.
[EN] Rabbit sperm abnormalities have been studied in conditions of chronic heat stress. Very significant increases (P<0.001) have been observad. The max1mum was in the 1ourth week of stress when total abnormalities were 40.5 ± 13.2 % (+122.5 % in comparison with the pi:e-stress period) ; tail abnormalitles were 26.5 ± 10.5 % (+94.9 %) ; broken spermatozoa 11.1±7.1 % (+552.9 %) ; benttails ~.3±1.7 % (+76.9 %) ; coiled tails 24.1 ± 10.3 % (+164.8 %). Head abnormalities and cytoplasmic droplets showed a decrease in the first weeks followed by a late increase. Combinad ratas have been studied to be usad as chronic heat stress indexes. Ratio between percentages...

  2. SELECTING LITTER SIZE IN RABBITS : ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT STRATEGIES.

    Armero, E.; Baselga, M.; Cifre, J.
[EN] A Family lndex and a reduced BLUP using records of two generations, have been comparad with a BLUP under a repeatabili!Y animal modal that usad ali records (complete BLUP). An analysis of robustness of the methods to changas in genetic parameters was also carried out and four types of assortative mating were comparad with random mating through the ratio of expected responses per unit of time. Records of 18 and 14 generations of two lines of rabbits selected for litter size at weaning were usad, and the selection process was studied in generation 17, 18 of one line, and 13, 14 of the other. The two simplified methods were practically...

  4. EUROPEAN RING-TEST ON IN VIVO DETERMINATION OF DIGESTIBILITY IN RABBITS : REPRODUCIBILITY OF A REFERENCE METHOD IN COMPARISON WITH DOMESTIC LABORATORY PROCEDURES

    Pérez, J.M.; Cervera, C.; Falcao e Cunha, L.; Maertens, L.; Villamide, M.J.; Xiccato, G.
[EN] A collaborative study involving six European laboratories from five countries (Belgium, Franca, ltaly, Portugal and Spain) was undertaken to assess the reproaucibility of an E:uropean standard method for in vivo determination of diet digestibility and to compare the results obtained with domestic procedures. The European method was carried out on 49-day-old rabbits cagad individually and fed ad libitum ; it included an adaptation period of 7 days followed by a collection period of 4 days. The digestibihN coefficients of dry matter (dDM), organic matter (dOM}, energv. {dE), cruda ¡:>rotein (dCP), cruda fibra (dCF), and the digestible enerNDE) content of two diets were measured in each laboratory both standard and domestic...

  5. EIMERIA MAGNA : THE EFFECT OF VARYING INOCULUM SIZE ON THE COURSE OF INFECTION IN ANGORA RABBITS.

    BHAT, T.K.; JlTHENDRAN, K.P.
[EN] The effect of gradad infection of Eimeria magna ooc~ts was studied in German Angora rabbits. A dose level of 2 x 1 Q4 sporulated oocysts was found to be satisfactory for getting a good oocyst yield and maintaining the general health of the host. The changas in the body weigflt, diarrhoea and mortality in the host indicated that this coccidial species was moderately pathogenic to Angora rabbits.

  7. EFFETS DE L'UTILISATION DE LA PAILLE D'ORGE SUR LA DIGESTIBILITÉ, LES PERFORMANCES ZOOTECHNIQUES ET LE RENDEMENT A L'ABATTAGE DES LAPEREAUX

Ben Rayana, A.; Bergaoui, R.; Kayouli, C.; Ben Hamouda, M.
[EN] Effects of barle~traw utilization as main fibra source on diet's digestibih , growth performance and slaughter rate of growing rabbi . The object of this study was to establish the conseguences of replacement of lucerna by barley straw as main fibra source in the diet of growing rabbits. Three diets were composed with straw + alfalfa proportions as follows: 0%+20% (diet T), 6%+8% (diet P1) and 10%+0% (diet P2). The 3 diets were isoenergetic (11 Mj/kg DM), isonitrogenous (20.8% CP/DM) and isofibrous (13.7% ADFIDMj. In a first trial, per experimental group 20 commercia hybrid rabbits (Hvla) of both sexes were cagad individually and received ad 1ibltum one of the 3 diets...

  9. EFFECTS OF PMSG INDUCED OESTRUS ON THE PERFORMANCES OF RABBIT DOES : A REVIEW +

    Maertens, L.; Luzi, F.; Grilli, G.
[EN] Although the rabbit is considered as a mammal with an extreme high reproduction capacity, the irregular alternation of oestrous and anoestrous periods 1s a disadvantage in view of a regular, synchronized reproduction rhythm. Especially with the increasing use of artificial insemination in rabbit breeding, large groups of females in the same reproductive and pllysiolog1cal stage are likely. However, the receptivity of the tloe is largely aepending on the hormonal antagonism between prolactin and gonadotropin. In order to salve this problem, last years an increasing use of a Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG) treatment, 2 to 3 days before the insemination, became widespread. The authors reviewed the literature concerning the effects of a PMSG...

  14. CARCASS TRAITS OF PUREBRED AND CROSSBRED RABBITS

    NOFAL, R.Y.; TOTH, S.; VlRAG, G.Y.
[EN] Carcass data on 80 rabbits representing four genetic groups and both sexes were analyséd to determine the effects of straight and cross breeding on carcass traits. Genetic groups were New Zealand White (NZW), Califomian {CA) ana their reciprocal crosses (NZW x CA and CA x NZW). At 14-16 weeks of age live béx:ly weight at slaughter (after 24h fasting) averaged 2529, 2459, 2523 and 2589a ; and dressing percentages were 60.6, 60.5, 60.1 and 60.8 %, respectively. The genelic group effect was not significant for all traits except proportion of the fore-quarters, legs and giblets percentages which were .higher in straightbreds than m crossbreds. Sex and genetic group x...
