  1. PARAMYXOVIRUS ASSOCIATED WITH PNEUMONIA IN A DWARF RABBIT

    DUCATELLE, R.; VANROMPAY, D.; CHARLIER, G.
[EN] Respiratory diseases in rabbits usually are associated with Pasteurella multocida infections. With the exception of myxomatosis and Rabbit Haemorrhagic disease, naturally occurring viral respiratory diseases have not been described in rabbits to our knowledge. In this report a natural outbreak of acute fatal pneumonia associated with the presence of paramyxovirus-like particles is described. The lung lesion was characterized by giant cell alveolitis. The results of this study should encourage virus isolation attempts in cases of acute respiratory disease in rabbits, in order to gain further insight in the possible role of viruses in rabbit pneumonia.

  3. INFLUENCE OF AGE, STIMULATION BY PMSG OR FLUSHING ON THE OVARIAN RESPONSE TO LHRHa IN YOUNG RABBIT FEMALES.

    Gosalvez, L.F.; Alvariño, J.M.R.; Diaz, P.; Tor, M.
[EN] Fifty young Californian rabbit females have been used to study the effect of age (14 or 17 weeks) and ovarian stimulation (nutritional flushing or PMSG) on the ovarian response to LHRHa injection. Stimulation by nutritional flushing showed, in the 14 and 17 week-old animals, a positive effect on live weight after 8 days, ovulation rate was satisfactory in females aged 17 weeks but not in the 14 week-old group, nevertheless 14 weeks old does showed an increase in the number of follicles larger than 0.6 mm (P<0.05). Stimulation by PMSG (100 IU) provoked a six folds increase in the number of follicles larger than 0.6 mm (90.6 vs 15.1;...

  4. INFLUENCE DE LA DURÉE D'ÉCLAIREMENT SUR LES PERFORMANCES DE REPRODUCTION DE LAPINES NULLIPARES ÉLEVÉES EN GUADELOUPE (F.W.I.)

    Deprés, E.; Theau-Clément, M.; Lorvelec, O.
[EN] In the present experiment, we compared reproductive performance of nulliparous rabbit does exposed to one of two light treatments designated as experimental group (N = 41 ) and control group (N = 40). In the experimental group, rabbits were exposed to 7 days extended light (+ 6 hours) befare mating. Control group were exposed to natural photoperiod (12 L. : 12 D.). Receptivity to the male, colour and size of the vulva were tested every days far 4 days. Receptivity to the male, the proportion of coloured and size of the vulva were significantly higher among the experimental group than the control. However, the breeding performance were not significantly...

  6. FATTENING HYLA RABBITS WITH A RESIDUAL SUBSTRATUM FROM THE PRODUCTION OF EDIBLE MUSHROOM PLEUROTUS PULMONARIUS

    Muzic, S.; Bozac, R.; Zivkovic, J.; Rupic, V.; Blazevic, R.
[EN] In order to close the technological chain : cereals - fungi - meat, the possibility of using the substratum of the production of Pleurotus pulmonarius in the nutrition of rabbits in investigated. Sixty male Hyla rabbits, aged 30 days divided in tour equal group (A, 8, C, D) were included in trial. They were fed 9 weeks ad libitum on one of the 4 pelleted feeds, comprising O%, 10 %, 20 or 30 %, respectively of the substratum left after production of Pleurotus pulmonarius. According to the results of the feeding part of the trial, the rabbits of all the groups consumad their diets and grew normally (23-24...

  8. EFFECTS OF DIETARY INCLUSION OF PACIFLOR (R) (BACILLUS CIP 5832)ON THE MILK COMPOSITION AND PERFORMANCES OF DOES AND ON CAECAL AND GROWTH PARAMETERS OF THEIR WEANLINGS

Maertens, L.; Van Renterghem, R.; De Groote, G.
[EN] Sixty does and their 461 weanlings were used to study the effect of dietary supplementation (1.0 x 106 CFU} of the probiotic Paciflor® (Bacillus CIP 5$32) on their performances, does' milk composition and caecal fermentation pattern. The weanlings were partly housed under favourable and less favourable housing conditions. The addition of Paciflor to a reproduction diet resultad in a significantly (P<0.05) higher weaning weight (+ 8 %). Pre-weanmg performances (we1ght, litter size, feed intake) and milk com, eosition (e.g. y-globulin level) showed small and not sigrnficant differences. Under favourable housing conditions daily weight gain during the fattening period was 42.3 g for the control rabbits versus 43.4 for the Paciflor treated rabbits....
