  1. Arquitecturas irreales y perspectiva emocional

Iñarra Abad, Susana; Juan Vidal, Francisco; Llinares Millán, María Del Carmen
[EN] It is redundant to affirm nowadays that virtua lreality has revolutionized architectural illustration. Seductive, computer-generated perspectives have invaded architectural rendering, mixed with photographs of built architecture, to the exten tthat it is not known (nor is there any desire to know) whether the place they represent exists or not in physical reality. Virtua limages are not only a means of communicating the future project they have become objects of creation, artistic ends in themselves. The architecture project needs to communicate and therefore requires certain communication strategies. Until recently the architect's point of view flooded the architectural expression of the...

[EN] The analysis of the drawings of the Basque architects Jose Manuel Aizpúrua and Joaquín Labayen, preserved in the Archive Labayen of Tolosa, allows us to tack a tour of ideas that passes in paralle lwith the definitive documents o fthe project. We can construct in this way a complete speech o fintentions from the criteria used in every occasion, choice of the type of drawing, used outline, colours, chosen point of view or physiognomy of the figures who give scale to the represented.

  3. Sorprender, asombrar, desconcertar... para despertar

    Mujika, Marte
[EN] The use of the teaching resources enabling the surprise, astonishment, even confusion, is an effective teaching strategy to break the myth of the great references and thus facilitate the proximity that the initiated student required to understand.

[EN] The architectural element with the greatest iconographic significance in the Monasterio de la Murta is the Torre de las Palomas (Dove Tower) And so because of its importance as an architectural and landscape element, before restoration, comprehensive documentation is needed to provide an understanding of the building. As part of the work of interpretation, sufficient graphic documentation has been required to determine the original morphology, especially as regards the interior levels and systems of vertical communication. The data obtained has enabled sections to be redrawn, which has provided an overall perception of existing lines and has made it possible...

[EN] Present and future of Cultural Heritage Surveying are intimately related to Terrestrial Laser Scanner. This technique, still under development despite not being new, is based on the massive, semi-automatic acquisition of precise geometric information with a laser scanner, which conveniently treated provides very realistic models of monuments and sites. In order to analyse its strengths and weaknesses, this technique has been applied to the surveying of the San Francisco Church (Priego de Córdoba), an Asset of Cultural Interest belonging to the Historical-Artistic Area of the old part of this town. The work undertaken and its results show that this...

[EN] This article is not about typography as such. The alphabets selected even violate some dictats governing design in this field. We have extracted some plays on forms designed using the combination of letters and architectural forms. The fonts used in this article could even be considered arbitrary, eccentric, individualistic, free, and in some extreme cases as "typographic jokes", but we prefer to look at values derived from the architectural graphic expression. The final products can be considered as integrated into the architectural graphic expression.

  7. Reseñas de libros

(2013). Reseñas de libros. EGA. Revista de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica. 18(21):4-21. doi:10.4995/ega.2013.1708

[EN] The treatise of Alonso de Vandelvira had a significant influence on Spanish and Andalusian Renaissance architecture. The study of two domes attributed to Andrés de Vandelvira, Alonso¿s father, brings us closer to understanding the treatise and the relationship between its theoretical postulates and actual building practice in the sixteenth century. The domes of San Salvador, Úbeda, and of San Sebastián, Alcaraz, both of which are attributed to Vandelvira¿s father, can be studied in the light of the treatise¿s model for a round chapel with rib vault. The theory of the treatise and the practice of these Spanish Renaissance domes...

[EN] In all cultures those people whoa re able to represent reality in a recognizable way have been distinguished as having a "divine gift" and also, in many cases, this fact has provided them with certain priviledges,s tatus and money. This person, ¿half teacher, half wizard¿, will have developed throughout his learning a set of guidelines and methods to carry out his duties and to safeguard the benefi ts his ability has given him. Only in certain cases, will such knowledge be passed on to his disciples, but in many others, the artist will take it with him to the grave.

[EN] The direct influence of art on architecture in the 1950s transferred the abstract, mechanistic and rationalist nature of the first wave Avant-gardes and the Modern Movement to a more concrete, complex and contextual one, starting on a journey through informalist existentialism that culminated in the symbolism of Pop Art. Pop Art was responsible for modifying the connections established between form and content and thus the concept of meaning and the symbolic dimension of architecture acquired a different magnitude. The This is Tomorrow exhibition evidenced the limits, modes and different degrees of collaboration between the arts and the change of...

[EN] Application of a new method for photographic restitution (single shooting) from circular elements present in the projection, through the interactive adaptation of Quadratic B-Spline type (taper) arcs, in order to check the curvature of the cylindric screen that supports the diorama of the exhibition ¿la Nova Barcelona¿, which appears in a photograph from 1934. The result of the refund allow us to complement the knowledge about graphic diorama, provided for future museum exhibition.

Martínez García, Santiago José; Lizondo Sevilla, Laura; Santatecla Fayos, José; Bosch Reig, Ignacio
[EN] One of the most important cultural scenes of the last century has been the media, becoming the laboratory of ideas for a large number of architects and artists. Many of the most famous projects had no customer or specific site; their existence came with the excuse of being displayed and their only tangible survival lies in the graphic and photographic documentation of the time. This paper focuses on the specific case of Mies van der Rohe and it analyses two of his methods of graphic expression used in his German architecture: the photomontages peculiar of his "paper architecture" presented...

[EN] Before starting a rehabilitation project for a monument the graphic information about it has to be available. Nowadays, different techniques allow us to obtain three-dimensional models with a different accuracy level and runtimes. This paper shows the work carried out to generate the graphic information as complete as possible (vertical and horizontal maps, sections and 3D models) for the rehabilitation of the tomb of Queen Elisenda in the Pedralbes Monastery, Barcelona (Spain). Laser scanning, photogrammetry and topography have been used for the data capture. That data will allow the analysis of the monument construction process. The models from photogrammetry...

  15. Goethe dibujante de arquitectura

    Calduch Cervera, Juan
[EN] If a dilettante is who executes art just for pleasure without professional purpose, the connoisseur is who enjoys it as eager for knowledge. Architecture is an art which doesn't admit a dilettante practice due to its complexity. Goethe was a drawing dilettante, even architectural, but he could only be a culture damateur of architecture. The Palladian architecture's track was left on his architectonic drawings being influenced by his admiration over them.

Tange, Iisozaki y Price

    Jerez, Fernando
[EN] Faced with the representation of space, the representation of time has been essential, during the twentieth century. We propose a journey through time that takes us from Tokyo to London in a kind of round trip between the two cities between 1955 and 1970. We propose a review of three architects, the japaneses Kenzo Tange and Arata Isozaki, and British Cedric Price, which is manifested in a new architectural paradigm as a synthesis of interdisciplinary artistic, philosophical or scientific theories ¿ the Uncertainty principle by Heisenberg, the graphic proccesses of John cage, or Gordon Pask¿s cybernetics ¿ where the architect,...

  17. China frente a occidente.

[EN] Traditional Chinese philosophy differs from Western thought in its essentially holistic conception of reality: it casts no separation between object and subject. The western method, essentially in mastery of nature, functions by analysing every isolated component in the objects of its study. Material progress has gradually extended this approach onto every aspect of our activity, while the East has always maintained its contextual and global standpoint and, as a result, a harmonious relationship with the world we inhabit. The scientific view successfully coexists with this empathetic and contemplative outlook. We shall set to understand the essence of the aforementioned difference...

  18. Cartografías de la memoria. Aby Warburg y el Atlas Mnemosyne

Tartás Ruiz, Cristina; Guridi Garcia, Rafael
[EN] In 1905, Aby Warburg, a german art historian of Jewish origin interested in western classical culture proposes a heuristic research method on memory and images. Holder of a huge image catalogue, Warburg devises a procedure to investigate and represent unobvious relations system trough collage and montage: the Bilderatlas Mnemosyne. Process allows replacing of images or introducing new elements to establish new relationship, an open & infinite procedure that creates a personal cartography thus making possible new constant rereading. Barely developed due to his premature death, Aby Warburg¿s lessons permeate all the coming visual culture.

  19. Las caricaturas de los arquitectos

    Amado, Antonio
[EN] Playful drawings by architects have not received the same attention as those they produce for their projects, despite this use of their graphic weapons in their personal lives providing us with a deeper understanding of their personalities. It is interesting to examine the drawings by architects who were caricature fans, such as Aalto, Le Corbusier, Jacobsen, Siza, Fehn and Sota, drawn when observing other architects with irony or tenderness.

[EN] A reflection on Arne Jacobsen and Louis I. Kahn¿s ideas and architecture, by comparing two drawings of the Acropolis of Athens, made from a very similar point of view, the theatre of Dionysus.
