[EN] This paper deals with the implementation of a system of peer assessment of collaborative work as a tool to measure students level of awareness of the work done in groups. Then, their collaborative work perception is compared with the academic results obtained by the group. The teacher provides a rubric for assessing the ability of collaborative group work. This group reflection on the methods and skills developed by working as a unit encourages critical analysis of individuals. The application of this methodology intends to provide information to the group, and teachers , to better understand the value that the group makes about its capabilities and compare those with...

Secondly we present DyP, focusing on their skills and content, and their classification. Then we enumerate the different tools that the university has made available to us to meet the challenge and, in time, will evaluate the possibilities were shuffled to use the proposed educational purposes. With this, we will be ready to present the various strategies that will shape the design...

[EN] Language learning requires an interaction between the students and the teacher in the classroom that allows for the actual practice of the communicative aspects of the language. Given the small number of language courses and credits offered in the degrees’ programs and the UPV requirements of a B2 level of language competence for the award of Bachelor’s degrees, the introduction of flipteaching in the English courses helps to significantly optimize teaching resources and to better use the time available in the classroom (Bergmann, Obermyer y Willie 2011, Stone 2012). In this paper we present a proposal for the implementation of flip-teaching in the course of English for Business Management...

[EN] The Vice-Rectorate for Studies, Quality and Acreditation and the Institute of Education Sciences promotes that education is based on competencies, either generic or specific. The School of Civil Engineering of the Universitat Politècncia de València has chosen the course “Caminos y Aeropuertos” to evaluate the generic competencies “Team working and leadership” and “Effective communication”, both oral and written. The course “Caminos y Aeropuertos” is a core subject in third year of the Deegree in Civil Engineering. The teaching methodology of this technical subject is based on the active participation of students through a diverse set of assignments. This paper explains the adaptation of the methodology to include the evaluation of generic...

Workshop docente "Estructuras singulares"

Fernández Plazaola, Igor; Sanchis Sampedro, Francisco Javier; Llinares Millán, Jaime; Molines Cano, Jose Miguel
[EN] Bachelor degrees in Architecture and Building Engineering develop several learning skills outcomes which are acquired in different subjects. These subjects rarely find a framework in which sharing the acquired knowledge and, therefore, to understand or experience the skills and competences as a whole. In this workshop foldable singular surfaces are created, this competence is acquired after completing Descriptive Geometry, Structures I and Architectural Projects courses. At the workshop a unique foldable surface is explained, this can be created using tensioned and rigid elements. Students should understand the figure geometrically and solve it spatially using basic and recycled materials (broomsticks, screws and strings) and adjusting tensioned elements to eventually cover a...

  14. Decido, luego existo

Izquierdo Sebastián, Joaquín; Benítez López, Julio; Berenguer Verdú, Antonio José
[EN] Decision making is ubiquitous in human affairs. Every day we make personal decisions; managers, entrepreneurs, executives, leaders, etc., base their work on a proper decision making. Often, some of the process elements are intangible, i.e. not objectively quantifiable. This project introduces students to the technique of multi-attribute decision making called AHP, whose foundation is rooted in matrix algebra. Through a suitable simulation scenario, each team of students must complete a decision-making process in the presence of intangibles. Concurrently, the algebraic fundamentals that make valid and consistent the process are clarified. This is a multidisciplinary project, which, incidentally, allows the evaluation of several transverse UPV-competencies. This project has been designed for...

[EN] The peer review is part of the collaborative learning in which students assess the work presented for other students. In this work, we present two types of evaluation related to effective communication: individual qualitative evaluation of oral presentation of problems, and collective quantitative evaluation of written documents presented by other teams. They have guidelines on how to conduct the assessment. The obtained results have been compared with the evaluation performed by the teachers. In regard to qualitative evaluation, the order of results of oral presentations, performed by teachers and peer review, is the same. In the quantitative evaluation of written documents the differences among teachers and peer review...

[EN] This paper presents the results of a perception study of the M.Sc. degree in concrete engineering and construction management students in relation to the learning outcomes for effective communication crossdisciplinar competence. An anonymous questionnaire using a Likert scale of 12 questions was used. Principal components analysis was used to identify underlying latent variables that explain the pattern of correlations. We have identified three principal components: skills related to oral communication, competence related to the organization and clarity of ideas and expertise related to the use of English. It has also proposed a multiple regression model to explain the variable "communicate clearly and effectively in an oral presentation, using the...

[EN] This paper describes several applets based on Easy Java Simulations. These applets are available as “learning objects” in the UPV RiuNet database. They are freely available so they can be used for any subject of physics from the UPV or any other institution. Through these learning objects, students can perform several lab sessions in the subject of Physics, or can perform simulations for displaying different physical phenomena. A special feature to note is that the applets are designed so that students can make measurements on the screen, similar to how they would in the physics laboratory of the subject. This allows to set out several lab sessions...
