  1. Valores de igualdad de género y especialización: diferencias entre las regiones de la UE

Quispe Salazar, Eduardo; San Juan Mesonada, Carlos
[EN] We empirically contrast the Boserup hypothesis for the regions of the European Union. We relate the dominant productive orientation in each region (plough, hoe, animal) with indicators of gender equality: female participation in management positions, in primary education, in higher education, in the labor market and the average hourly wage. Using a Probit model we find that, consistently with the hypothesis, there is a negative relationship between indicators and plough agriculture. Additionally, we prove that livestock-oriented regions also generate less egalitarian gender values than hoe-oriented regions.

  2. Valoración de la oferta de bienes públicos por parte de los sistemas agrarios: el caso del olivar de montaña en Andalucía

    Villanueva, Anastasio J.; Gómez-Limón, José A.; Rodríguez-Entrena, Macario
[EN] We carried out an economic valuation of public goods (PGs) provided by Andalusian mountainous olive groves using choice experiments. The results show varying farmers’ behaviour depending on the level of stringency of the requirements included in agri-environmental schemes, with willingness to accept (WTA) lower than € 80/ha for less stringent scenarios (such as those associated with integrate production) and WTA higher than € 300/ha for the most stringent scenario (designed to maximise the provision of environmental PGs). The study also indicates that the inclusion of a results-based bonus has a low relevance

  3. Valuating intangible benefits from afforested areas: A case study in India

Jain, Avinash; Chandra, Girish; Nautiyal, Raman
[EN] Environmental compensation measures usually accompany energy projects. Willingness-To-Pay (WTP) for five intangible benefits derived from afforested areas of a compensatory afforesta-tion programme of National Thermal Power Corporation Dadri are estimated. Conventional Contingent Valuation shows the average WTP € 2.1 per respondent per month with more than 43 % of total WTP for ‘soil conservation and remediation’ and ‘improvement in underground water level’. Logit model method depicts the same order of magnitude but differs significantly at 5 % level for all the benefits. More in-formed decisions upon energy projects and afforestation programs shall help in conserving forests and their ecosystem...

  4. Evaluation of risk management tools for stabilising farm income under CAP 2014-2020

    Castañeda-Vera, Alba; Garrido, Alberto
[EN] Guaranteeing farm income stability is an objective of the European Union’s and the Spanish agricultural policies. In this paper, CAP direct payments, diversification, crop insurance and an Income Stabilisation Tool (IST) were compared considering (i) their effect on farm income and income stability, (ii) the expected farmers’ willingness for adoption, and (iii) the efficiency of public expenditure invested in supporting them. Main conclusions point at direct payments and crop diversification as the most effective measures in decreasing income variability. Nevertheless, using crop insurance or an IST has potential for both improving farm resilience to income variability and limiting public...
