    Bermejo, L.A.; López-Gallego, F.; Camacho, A.; Santolaria, J.; Delgado-Bermejo, J.V.

Molina Alcalá, Antonio; Delgado-Bermejo, J.V.; Delgado Romero, F.; Fresno Baquero, M.R.; Camacho Vallejo, M.E.; Darmanin, N.; Capote, J.F.
A computer program, developed in Clipper, for the management of the genealogical and productive information from the Canary Goat Group, is described. The two first sections of this program are planned for the males and females genealogical data arrangement. Third section is devised for the productive data storage. Fourth section is constructed for the emission of reports and finally, fifth section is a miscellaneous of utilities, where the connection with other programs must be highlighted. Also an exit control is enclosed. The basic purposes of this program aim the emission of official production reports for the Administration and farmers, and...

Delgado, F.; Delgado-Bermejo, J.V.; Camacho Vallejo, M.E.; Fresno Baquero, M.R.; Molina Alcalá, Antonio; Capote, J.F.
An assistant computer program for the morphologic evaluation of the Canary Dairy Goat is described. This is presented in two versions, the first one for its apLication in stable, the second one for the competitive evaluation in exhibitions. With this program the evaluation rapidity increases, the information flows towards the central database is enhanced, the punctuation is objectived, and also it collaborates with the homogeneisation of the evaluation criteria.

  4. Preliminary study of the Majorera milk goat productive performance

    Gómez, J.; Delgado-Bermejo, J.V.; Molina Alcalá, Antonio; Fresno Baquero, M.R.; Darmanin, N.; Capote, J.F.
In the present paper we have made an evaluation of the milking and reproductive aptitudes of the Majorera Goat with a view to the productive characterization and definition of these animals, all from the Fuerteventura"s Milking Control programme. In this study 452 animals have participated, belonging to 7 of the most representative farms on the island. With respect to the reproductive aptitude. we have found interesting values of 1-95±0,03 of mean prolificily; with an oulstanding of 56.2 p.100 of double kidding, and only 4-6 p.100 abortions. Among farms the prolificity values oscillate between 1.73±0,07 and 2-09±0,08. The descriptive statistics control...

    Delgado-Bermejo, J.V.; Fresno Baquero, M.R.; Álvarez, S.; Barba Capote, C.J.; Capote, J.F.
The Palmera sheep breed is officially registered in the Spanish Breeds Catalogue in 1997, as autoctonus breed with a special protection. The census in 1996 was not above 150 animals (82 females, 6 males and 60 animals under 12 months). In order to the census we can affirm the critical situation of the breed in serious extinction danger. In this study we try to define its racial patron serving as a base for its recuperation and conservation. A sample of 64 adult animals (60 females and 4 males) was studied, describing its morphology and faneroptic characters an studying its zoometric...

    Delgado-Bermejo, J.V.; Fresno Baquero, M.R.; Álvarez, S.; Barba Capote, C.J.; Capote, J.F.
The sheep census of the Canary Islands is about 43.000 animals, of this the Canarian Sheep Breed is above 90 percent. It presents a great interest for obtaining milk and meat as quality products. Attending exclusively to the census, there is no problem of conservation, but this breed is affected by hybridisation process, overcoat in Tenerife. Here we present a study about the breed characterisation, analysing descriptive parameters as morphometric and faneroptic, and zoometric parameters of 168 animals (156 females and 12 males) in La Palma and Tenerife.

    Puntas, J.; Cabello, A.; Vallecillo, A.; García, G.; Delgado-Bermejo, J.V.; Barba Capote, C.J.; León Jurado, J.M.
The results of the assisted reproduction program by means of the artificial insemination using fresh semen obtained in the ram centre of the National Association of Breeders of the Segureña Sheep (ANCOS) are shown. The index of fertility obtained is slightly higher than 40 percent and the index of prolificacy over 150 percent, standing out that these results do not correspond to a experimental station or intensive herds, in spite of this they have been obtained in hard conditions and clearly extensive systems. The success in the use of this tool have contributed to the location of the Segureña scheme...
