  1. Teratogenic effects of ochratoxin a in rabbits.

    Wangikar, P.B.; Dwivedi, P.; Sinha, N.
[EN]Ochratoxin A, is a food-borne mycotoxin produced by several fungal species of the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium. Ochratoxin A was dissolved in corn oil and given by gastric intubation to rabbits on days 6-18 of gestation with the dose levels of 0.025, 0.050 and 0.100 mg/kg body weight. When compared with controls (4.16 %), in case of 0.100 mg/kg dose group, there was a significant increase in the incidence of gross (P<0.05) and skeletal (P<0.10) anomalies. The number of live fetuses in the case of 0.100 mg/kg dose group was significantly less than those of the 0.025mg/kg dose group. When...

  2. Protein, fat and moisture content of retail cuts of rabbit meat evaluated with the nirs methodology.

    Pla, M.; Pascual, M.; Ariño, B.
[EN] Thirty commercial rabbit carcasses weighting 836-1413 g were sealed in the Spanish market and were retailed according to the WRSA norms to obtain four parts: fore legs, thoracic cage, loin and hind part. The loin was separated into abdominal walls, Longissimus dorsi (LD) muscles and spine cut; hind legs and sacrum were separated from the hind part. Each joint was carefully dissected to separate edible meat from bone. Meat of each of the 210 samples (180 from joints and 30 representing meat from the whole carcass) was ground and was scanned by NIRS reflectance in quadruplicate; the four spectra...

  3. Effect of change in nursing method on the performance of rabbit does.

    Eiben, Cs.; Kustos, K.; Gódor-Surmann, K.; Theau-Clément, M.; Szendrõ, ZS.
[EN] To study the effect of nursing method on reproduction, 232 primiparous and multiparous lactating Pannon White and NZW rabbit does were distributed proportionately among four experimental groups: FF: free nursing from kindling until weaning; FC: free nursing from day 1 to 7 and controlled nursing from day 8 to 17; CF: controlled nursing from day 1 to 7 and free nursing from day 8 to 17; CC: controlled nursing from day 1 to 17. After the 17th day of lactation, free nursing was used in all groups until weaning at 35 days of age. In controlled nursing the females...

  4. Crossbreeding parameters of some productive traits in meat rabbits.

    Piles, M.; Rafel, O.; Ramon, J.; Gómez, E.A.
A crossbreeding experiment using animals from C and R rabbit strains was conducted. Direct and maternal additive genetic effects and direct heterosis were estimated for some productive traits during the post-weaning growing period. Growth rate, daily feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio, between 32 to 60 days of age, were recorded for 1377 young rabbits. At 66 days of age, 736 animals were weighed and slaughtered in a commercial slaughter-house. No fastening was practiced. Carcasses were weighed 30 min after slaughter and then they were chilled (4ºC, 24 hours) and weighed again. Carcass yield and drip loss percentage were computed....
