SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online (52,285 recursos)
SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) is an electronic library covering a selected collection of Brazilian scientific journals. The objective of the site is to implement an electronic virtual library, providing full access to a collection of serial titles, a collection of issues from individual serial titles, as well as to the full text of articles. The project envisages the development of a common methodology for the preparation, storage, dissemination and evaluation of scientific literature in electronic format.

121. Morphological Study of Adult Male Worms of Schistosoma mansoni Sambon, 1907 by Scanning Electron Microscopy - Machado-Silva,José Roberto; Lanfredi,Reinalda Marisa; Gomes,Delir Corrêa
Tubercles, spines and sensory receptors are the most studied structures of adult male worms of Schistosoma mansoni isolated in other countries.

122. Antigenic Recognition Pattern of Schistosomiasis Patients Bearing Different Parasite Burdens - Gomes,Yara M; Nakazawa,Mineo; Teixeira,Kirte M; Luna,Karla PO; Abath,Frederico GC

123. Photodegradation of the Molluscicidal Latex of "Crown-of-Thorns" (Euphorbia milii var hislopii) - Oliveira-Filho,EC; Paumgartten,FJR

124. A Laboratory-based Approach to Biological Control of Snails - Lewis,Fred A; Knight,Matty; Richards,Charles S
Understanding the genetics involved in this complex host/parasite relationship may lead to an often discussed approach of introducing resistant B.

125. Evidentiation of Paramyosin (Sm-97) as a Modulating Antigen on Granulomatous Hypersensitivity to Schistosoma mansoni Eggs - Hirsch,Cristine; Carvalho-Queiroz,Claudia; Franco,Gloria R; Pena,Sergio DJ; Simpson,Andrew JG; Goes,Alfredo M
We obtained four clones with 400 (Sm-III.11), 900 (Sm-III.16), 1100 (Sm-III.10) and 1300 (Sm-III.12) bp of length.

126. Diagnosing Schistosomiasis - Rabello,Ana
Paucity of egg output in low prevalence situations, low levels of circulating antigens in individuals with low intensity of infection and inadequate specificity of antibody detection systems outline pieces of a puzzle that challenges scientific efforts.

127. Biodistribution Study of the Anaesthetic Sodium Phenobarbital Labelled with Technetium-99m in Swiss Mice Infected with Schistosoma mansoni Sambon, 1907 - Simões,Susana Balmant Emerique; Machado-Silva,José Roberto; Gutfilen,Bianca; Presgrave,Octávio Augusto França; Oliveira,Márcia Betânia; Bernardo-Filho,Mario
The radioactivity labelling (%) was determined by paper ascending chromatography perfomed with acetone (solvent).

128. Role of Immune Complexes from Pacients with Different Clinical Forms of Schistosomiasis in the Modulation of In Vitro Granuloma Reaction - Rezende,Simone A; Lambertucci,José R; Goes,Alfredo M
Using an in vitro model of granuloma reaction, we show that immune complexes (IC) isolated from sera of INT patients are able to reduce granulomatous reaction developed by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from acute (AC), INT and hepatosplenic (HE) patients to soluble egg antigen (SEA)-conjugated polyacrylamide beads (PB-SEA).

129. Differential Regulation of Granuloma Size and Hepatic Fibrosis in Schistosome Infections - Cheever,Allen W
However, hepatic fibrosis is at the least an equally relevant variable.

130. Impact of Antifibrotic Treatment on the Course of Schistosoma mansoni Infection in Murine Model - Giboda,Michal; Smith,James M
Antifibrotic, ß-aminopropionitrile treatment has a profound effect on the cellular matrix composition of the liver granuloma of Schistosoma mansoni infected mice when given alone, resulting in increase macrophage infiltration.

131. An Experimental Approach to the Pathogenesis of "Pipestem" Fibrosis (Symmers' Fibrosis of the Liver) - Andrade,Zilton A; Silva,Luciana M; Souza,Marcia Maria de
Pathogenesis of schistosomal hepatic fibrosis ("pipestem" fibrosis of the liver) was investigated by means of the murine model.

132. Factors Involved in Schistosoma mansoni Infection, in Rural Areas of Northeast Brazil - Coutinho,Eridan M; Abath,Frederico GC; Barbosa,Constança S; Domingues,Ana Lúcia C; Melo,Marcelo CV; Montenegro,Silvia ML; Lucena,Maria Anunciada F; Romani,Sylvia AM; Souza,Wayner V; Coutinho,Amaury D
Although no statistical difference was found regarding prevalence, severe infection (>400 epg) predominated in Itapinassu, probably related to the kind of occupation.

133. Paleoparasitology of Schistosomiasis - Araújo,Adauto; Ferreira,Luiz Fernando

134. Evaluation of the Molluscicidal Properties of Euphorbia splendens var. hislopii (N.E.B.) Latex: Experimental Test in an Endemic Area in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil - Mendes,Nelymar M; Vasconcellos,Maurício C; Baptista,Darcilio F; Rocha,Roberto S; Schall,Virginia T
Following the positive results obtained regarding the molluscicidal properties of the latex of Euphorbia splendens that were corroborated in laboratory and field tests under restricted conditions, a field study was conducted in experimental streams located in an endemic area.

135. The WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Control of Schistosomiasis at Niamey, Niger - Chippaux,J-P; Boulanger,D; Brémond,P; Campagne,G; Véra,C; Sellin,B
The Centre de Recherche sur les Méningites et les Schistosomes (CERMES) is a research institute depending on the Organisation de Coordination et de Coopération pour la lutte contre les Grandes Endémies - a West African Organization for Public Health - devoted to the studies on schistosomiasis and meningitis.

136. In Tribute to the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of the Founder of the Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz Oswaldo Gonçalves Cruz

137. Physical Factors Influencing the Oviposition of Lutzomyia migonei (Diptera: Psychodidae) in Laboratory Conditions - Nieves,Elsa; Ribeiro,Aloisio; Brazil,Reginaldo
To determine the influence of physical factors on oviposition of Lutzomyia migonei (Diptera: Psychodidae) under laboratory conditions, two sets of experiments were performed.

138. The Influence of Self-fertilization performance and Copulation Behaviour in Reproduction by Cross-fertilization in Groups of Biomphalaria tenagophila (Mollusca, Planorbidae) - Freitas,June Springer de; Paula,Débora Pires; Cariello,Mariana Otero
Groups were constituted by a homozygous pigmented snail and two albinos: one with a viability rate higher than 70% ("good reproducers") and the other less than 10% ("bad reproducers").
